Went up to NY for the China exhibit at the Met, walked by this site. I'm really looking forward to this on future visits.

Steel already at street level. I remember this time last year, the predictions were for the building to start rising by September. They're way ahead of schedule.

Is this building primarily steel or concrete?

Steel, coming from suburban PA.

>> way ahead of schedule...

I recall reading here about the performance incentives for getting the foundation work done on time: "An unscheduled break leaves tens of thousands of dollars on the line if it leads to missing a deadline."

You've got to believe the entire project is being managed that way. Kind of makes you wonder about projects likely NOT being managed that way... MTA/Subways, hello?

There used to be bronze or some other kind of yellowish metal underneath the bland white terracotta. It gave the facade a lot more character. I guess it went away along with the 100' drop. Value engineering?

Depends on the rendering I suppose. It the larger pics, it's just a darker shade.

This building is getting a quick start for sure. I remember thinking given the location to Grand Central and all those buildings on the site that needed to come down that it would be slow going once they were ready to go vertical.

I think given the area, the crown/spire area could be a great addition to the skyline if lit right.

Drove by the site today. Lots of excavator work from what I gathered. Unfortunately, traffic was moving freely so I couldn't take a pic. One of those cases where I'd welcome a truck blocking the box. That steam pipe btw on the corner of Madison and 42nd is causing mayhem traffic wise. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, one of these bundle of joys.

If possible, avoid 42nd going crosstown.

This one does seem to get more interests than a lot of the other construction going on in the City...

This development is so hot, that even being in its proximity, vehicles ignite in a torrential blaze of unwithering excitement.
