The site plan with elevations was posted to the city's AULCC website.

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/...ston_PLANS.pdf

These show it to be slightly taller. It's the same number of floors, but this shows it being slightly taller to the roof parapet, and it measures from the east side from an elevation of 499 feet above sea level for a total height of 170 feet. That's a pretty significant height, especially for that area. That will easily make it the tallest building in East Austin.

I don't think the height changed. The site is sloped, and the elevation I posted last year from the last AULCC go round was not the tallest side.
The site is zoned for 150', and I believe the city measures height from the main entrance to the roof line. Mechanical isn't counted toward a building's height by the city.
It looks like they may have changed architects again. GDA's name was removed from the latest elevations. The original version known as One Two East was Rhode Partners.
The start of construction is listed as May 1.

I've heard that construction on this project is likely to start around 4th quarter this year. Anyone else hear something similar?

Two posts up from yours mentions May 1st based on an AULCC filing. I suspect May 1st is overly optimistic and the 4th Qtr. more likely, but what is your source?

Heard from one of the Contractors bidding for this project. Bid date was slated for 4/17 and Contractor selection sometime in May. Plans are currently listed as "Not for Construction", but is being sold off that set.

Just doesn't seem likely that May would work as a start. I was looking to verify what I was told.

Word on the street over here is the CVS in that strip mall is closing at the end of April. So, should hopefully see some digging on that site this year.

Heard that LMC (developer) is supposed to be doing GC interviews on 5/1/18. Team players should be decided here shortly...

The CVS supposedly closed for good today. Maybe a full service grocery store with a pharmacy could be built as part of this project to replace the loss of the neighborhood pharmacy. Oh wait...

So a general question: how difficult is it to convert space blocked for generic “retail” into something that could support a grocery store? Why does a grocery have to be part of the preplanning?

It probably would have been much easier to convert the CVS into a full service grocery space than getting the approval to build a new one one on the ground floor of the apartment tower. But the developers wanted/needed to whole site for the base of their residential tower.

I guess that’s the crux of my question — do you need special approval to construct a grocery store as part of a development, vs just general “retail” or “restaurant” space.

Couldn’t you just build for 50k sq ft of space, call it retail for purposes of development and construction, and fill in the grocery (or pharmacy, or whatever) later?

This project went back to AULCC, and the new start date is estimated to be this October.

It's official according to Yelpers. But I don't know if the Mexican Bingo parlor closed yet:

Upon further research, the bingo parlor has already moved to E. Riverside Dr. and the Mexican restaurant has closed. Bring on the Demo.

This is back at AULCC yet again, and October is still the planned start date. We have new elevations dated 07/30, but there's no change in floor count or height.

wow.....what a drag. I love that the name is the Huston. I hope Ora one day realizes that she screwed over her constituents over a few extra floors.

IIRC, this was to have elderly housing, and a grocery store, ohhh....not too mention more of what we really need......housing. Now.......bleh.

Perfect example of a "do-gooder" being so focused on the task of beating something down that they don't consider the consequences of their actions should they win. Too bad, too, because the neighborhood could have benefitted greatly from the grocery.

Me too, and I also like the color pallet and glass combo, especially the rust outline. This is a pretty building.
