Time for some more overdue pics that I took from December, 2008.
I drove the overseas highway from my Key Largo base to Key West ('bout 100 miles - 160 km).
Lots of neat, if not slightly hair-raising bridges.
First, the Long Key Bridge:
Next, the ...
The old bridge is on the right. I can't imagine driving over it with all the boat-like cars they drove in the 60's and 70's. It is so narrow.
Side view of part of the old bridge. Pidgeon Key at far end of segment.
Some random key scenery.
The other end of 7 Mile:
Skip to Duval Street in Key West:
Small rentals at north end of Duval.
Big-a** rental a bit south.
US Custom House:
The neatest art installation around the US Custom House. The nekkid ladies are a center-piece for other life-size models of people interacting (looking) at them:
Mr. Cheapee's leads to a Lost Weekend... who knew?
Key West - mecca of tiny transport:

Beautiful thanks for sharing! I have never been there but it looks like a very cool place that is isolated from reality except when the reality is a big looming Hurricane.
Beautiful city and setting. Did you see any of the Hemingway cats in Key West? Supposedly there are hundreds of strays descended from Hemingway's polydactal cats, and it's supposed to be a tourist attraction of sorts. I know this may not be of interest to many others but as an animal shelter volunteer I like to hear about such things.
Nice. I'd move down to Key West in a heartbeat if I didn't have to worry about actually having a job.
Denson,
Since you're a volunteer you might be interested. The Hemingway House and museum had a big battle with the Feds about the cats. The Feds was trying to classify them as a zoo and wanted to take the cats away. The house made some changes and I think they made a deal to keep the cats, but it was a big hubaloo. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20...hemingway_cats They're pretty neat to see in person though, they have the run of the house.
