I know West Palm Beach isn't terribly interesting. My photos show that (and I try to show it in my photos). But I'm trying to make it seem sort of cool. I mean, there are about 50 miles of beaches here and apparently some wildlife areas (I hope to make it to the wildlife places someday). So here's more of this city.
Man, this thread's dead. I'm taking it as an indicator that no one cares about the WPB area. I just got a new lens (70-200 F4L) and wanted to take it out, so enjoy these photos.
These next photos are from the Jupiter Inlet, which is north of West Palm Beach. There's a lighthouse there. Some of these were taken with my old telephoto lens, so they're not that sharp. I'm planning on visiting again soon.
No this thread is not dead as I have been checking it out and waiting for photos of neighbouring towns such as Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens etc etc ...
florida is a very urban state, if i was a real estate investor, i would not turn my back on the florida market, this due to an ever decreasing availability of supply. i wish i had that kind of money in 2009.
Recently I visited Lake Worth, which is the city immediately south of West Palm Beach. I walked around the two main roads downtown for a few hours. It's got a really old-time feel to it with some modernization. I'm planning on going back when it's sunny so I can get some less dreary photos.
Gulf Stream Hotel by raptoralex, on Flickr
This hotel has some history to it. Read about it on Wikipedia. It was built in 1923, it faces the Intracoastal Waterway, and is the only remaining grand hotel from the Roaring '20s in the Palm Beach area.
Do you guys care about wilderness preserves? I know they're not urban and skyscrapery, but they're part of this county. Some are pretty nice. I could post more photos from them.
There are nature preserves throughout Palm Beach County and South Florida. The three I've visited so far are Grassy Waters Preserve, Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Nature Center. They're essentially the same, so I don't feel there's a need to differentiate. You can click on the photos to see where they are.
