Macro photos

I never see any macro photos here, so I decide to post some of my own. The last two are very recent, taken in the past week. Doesn't anyone else here like macros?

Those are great photos Doady.

I don't have a macro lens, the best I can do is use my wide angle zoom up close and do some cropping:

Flar, my lens can go much closer than yours but the working distance is very small so my result would not be much better (if at all) if I tried. Which is why I didn't post any insect photos. Most of the photos I posted here are focused at 3 cm (the minimum focus distance) and I am not brave enough to be that close to spiders!

Thanks, my Olympus C-7070 has fixed lens so I don't have much choice in terms of lenses... It does already have a 35mm-equivalent maximum magnification ratio of approx 1.25:1, so I wouldn't need to change the lense to do macros anyways.

I am seriously considering getting an SLR though for better autofocus and optical viewfinder, even though live view would not be as good.

Doady: so your camera has a macro mode then? It seems to work pretty good. My lens can focus at a minimum of about 6-7" away from something, that's about how close I was to the spider. Just the body of that spider was over an inch long, it was a little scary.

Yeah, the macro mode set the lens at 55mm focal length and it works pretty well except for the fact that the autofocus is a little slow and unreliable. Sometimes I just preset the focus at 3 cm and shoot because the AF doesn't work. And if you are in close proximity to a giant spider, you probably do not want to be wasting time! This is probably the main reason I want an SLR, though I will still keep my current camera for other reasons.
