"Up North" in Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Three Great Lakes & Three Great Lighthouses

These pics are from my May '08 jaunt to the family cabin at Cedarville, Michigan, in the Les Cheneaux region of the Eastern Upper Peninsula ("U.P."), about 20 miles East of the Straits of Mackinac on the North shore of Lake Huron.

But I'll start at the tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula (the "glove"), with the town of Mackinac City & the sweet profile of the Mackinac Bridge:

The lighthouse:

The bridge:

Mackinac Island across the Straits. The water really did have that day-glo quality; must be the zebra mussels:

Yay - the U.P.!

Town of St. Ignace:

On to Cedarville:

Cedarville marina:

View from "base camp":

The pup is glad to be out of that car:

Huron coast:

Port Dolemite:

Excursion to the North coast of Lake Michigan, Naubinway etc.:

Big weird storm moving in (photomerge):

North to the Michigan side of Sault Sainte Marie ("The Soo"). This is the oldest European settlement in both the Midwest & in Ontario, founded 1668, although one needs to look closely at the stonework on some of the buildings to get a sense of history:

These locks, which connect Lake Superior to Lake Huron, are still the world's busiest:

Bridge connecting the US & Canadian sides in the background:

Lake Superior water level to the left, Huron/Michigan levels to the right:

Sister cities:

Observation tower:

Old locks:

Love this building!:

Neon:

On to Lake Superior.
Munising:

Lake Cliffs:

Whitefish Point:

That's it - thanks for looking.
