Canopy Lights Tested Last Night

https://www.myajc.com/blog/airport/h...hI6G9PtGUD07O/

Quote:
The Terminal North canopy is under construction and expected to be completed this fall, and the airport plans to test nearly 1,000 lights on the canopy Wednesday evening at 11:05 p.m.

The test will involve cycling through a dozen color combinations, according to the airport, which said it will be “a partial display of what is expected to become the next architectural icon for the City of Atlanta.”

When the canopies are complete in fall 2019, there will be more than 3,600 lights diffused through a plastic canopy.

The canopy could be lit in different colors for special occasions such as red and black for a Falcons victory, green for Earth Day, or red white and blue for Independence Day, the airport said.
I feel like the "Fall 2019" estimate for the South canopy is a little ambitious, but we shall see.

I got to tour the airport with the author of the new Flight Paths book and she talked about some of the plans to rehabilitate the Flint River headway. So hopefully it won't just be this big ole pipe

I didn't realize the entire town of Mountain View got absorbed into the airport

Georgia lawmakers eyeing state takeover of Atlanta's airport

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/...keover-of.html

Quote:
Legislation proposing a state takeover of Atlanta’s airport failed to gain traction in the General Assembly last winter amid strong opposition from the city and Delta Air Lines Inc..

But a Georgia Senate study committee has launched hearings that could lead supporters to renew the effort during the 2019 legislative session that begins in January.

Jones said another reason to consider the state assuming control of Hartsfield-Jackson is that Atlanta officials will do everything they can to squash consideration of building a second commercial airport in metro Atlanta, an idea that has been discussed for years but has failed to get off the ground.

CoA may need to take legal action against the state, otherwise this will never stop.

That's something I have wondered as well. Why doesn’t the state pursue building a second airport in the region if they want to get into the airport business?

Hi all,

You haven't hear the news about this. ATL new interim general manager said that they will extension the T gates in south domestic terminal. Because JetBlue is not too happy about split gates at entire D & E concourse. They want to be at new T gate extension.

https://www.ajc.com/business/hartsfi...xFmu1MOghUgTI/

Let the speculation begin!

Heavy construction and roadway closures at the South Terminal will begin this month. The North is nearly complete.

Wow! Just perfect!

So now, they will start construction at the south terminal. They should be so successful.

Proposal sputters for state takeover of Atlanta’s airport

https://saportareport.com/proposal-s...antas-airport/

Quote:
One apparent casualty of the campaign for Georgia governor is the proposed state takeover of Atlanta’s airport. The deadline for recommendations is Dec. 1, when the relevant Senate study committee is to be abolished, leaving the committee less than a month after the Nov. 6 general election to produce its recommendations.

The committee has received a report on terms of the city’s Master Bond Ordinance, which governs the existing $2.8 billion in debt the report said the airport owes.

Among the terms the report cites is one that could be viewed as a poison pill. It says the city vowed to bond holders that the city, “irrevocably covenants, binds and obligates itself not to sell, lease or encumber all or any part of the Airport.” That is, not without a number of conditions.

The report had this to say about how the state could avoid restrictions related to the airport’s outstanding debt:
  • “Really only one way: Refinance all of the Airport bonds with new bonds, issued by the transferee
  • “Would have to raise a lot more than $2.8 billion to pay off the existing bonds
  • “Would result in the Airport carrying significantly higher debt load than it does now”

O’hare is on track to take the World Busiest Airport for aircraft movement - ATL will still be the busiest passenger airport.
