Separate. Too much happening just in the Downtown area alone. There is a lot happening in the non-downtown area, but not much gets updated in terms of progress, construction pictures and so on. I've taken many photos over the past 10 months, but im just too lazy to put on computer, then upload on Flickr and then post on here. By the time I get to it, a couple months have passed and im like oh well, next time.

Yes, the forumers have spoken - and thank you for chiming in! Separate threads it is. Who will volunteer to take on the non-downtown thread, which should include everything else in LA County? So, we'll have two threads:

Downtown - includes downtown, City West, Arts District, Chinatown, USC/Expo Park
Non-downtown - everything outside of that in LA County (Orange County projects can count here too if need be).

Thought I'd share my crude dreams of the USbank tower being retrofitted with a glorious spire. She's a big girl, I'm sure she can support it.

So we're waiting on renderings for the 66 story tower at 9th/fig and the 50 story Crescent Heights Tower next to Ten50. Any others?

nice! im really liking 888 Hope. Weirdly enough, i think it would look good as a 15 story tower as well.

L.A. needs at least 500,000 affordable housing units--L.A. Times

That would be about 500 50 story apt towers or 1000 25 story towers. Maybe more. Building up is the cheapest and smartest way to do it (minimizes land costs), near transit hubs. Smart infill too, and recycle and repurpose older buildings for housing too

1250 feet would be nice. Put to rest what is the REAL tallest bldg. west of Chicago. Not Wilshire Grand. Not Salesforce. Plus I could see a nice fun thrill ride(s) up there--kind of like what they have in Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas.

It would have to be some kind of space frame like structure made of pieces that could be easily lifted up to the top and assembled using the existing crane atop the building now. Would be cool for the LA Olympics, if we get it.

When I said the cycle is not over and that we will see more investments.. I was talking about this:

L.A. Times:

Quote:
Forty percent of investors said they intend to spend more this year than they did last year, while 16% said they would spend less.
Yes, the market will be peaking at one point, but not in 2017 and 2018. I am positive until 2020 and we have already a very long run.
Foreign investments are a key factor and the outlook is good. Forty percent to 16% is a huge number and not even close to a reversal.

Things can change quickly, but the trend is your friend and in that case a good one.

Quote:
Los Angeles ranks as the top choice in the U.S. for international real estate investors

Los Angeles is in a sweet spot in its real estate cycle that will make it one of the top choices in the world for buying property this year, a new report says.

The L.A. area ranked No. 1 in North America in a survey of global real estate investors who have a combined total of $1.7 trillion to spend on property in 2017.
Top choice cities for investment in other regions were London and Sydney, Australia.

LA forumers: I'd like to hear your thoughts on evolution of downtown and where you see specific types of services showing up and in what neighborhoods. For instance, is there a specific street that is evolving into a retail corridor, a neighborhood that has become a choice for trendy dining? Artist galleries, etc?

I've recently relocated to LA and spend a lot of time exploring downtown and environs. As a newbie, its a bit challenging to understand where things are now and where they are going since so much of downtown is under construction. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Well 3rd street has become the main retail street in the Arts District. It's trendy artsy shops and expensive artisan food.

Picture taken today - Downtown..

Circa is already noticeable.
The Wilshire Grand is also making a nice impact (even the spire).

Dang, Circa looks tiny compared to the Ritz in that pic. Can't wait until Oceanwide fills in that gap

I love that angle of downtown and how Bunker Hill and the massing of its towers makes downtown look like LA's citadel.
