It's all about fitting more people in. History be damned. All things considered, history is somewhat superficial to other concerning legacies. It's unfathomable to Torontonians that the deteriorating standard of living represented by so many developments including this one may negatively impact the desire of people to settle in Toronto. Suggesting the probability of population decline far into the future as a result of the continued trajectory we currently ride would constitute a special jacket and a ride in a white unmarked van out of the city.

The 200 plus towers under construction form an impressive skyline all by themselves and significant growth to the existing skyline and yet every future skyline drawing produced includes every zoning bylaw amendment exercise. There's that unrelenting hope that every single one of these towers will be built and filled with content new Canadians.

Even if only 25% of the tall proposals get built, that would add another 70 or so more skyscrapers to the mix...

There are over 250 of them: https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=104721542

Here are the Toronto skyscrapers that are imminent, mostly having been proposed about 4-5 years ago.

4 are in site prep.
3 are in sales

543 Yonge Street in context. Insane density in the blocks along Yonge Street from Gerrard to Bloor.

steveve

BTW I did a 10 minute fix of the too busy Arcadis design for 543 Yonge over at UT (at no charge!).

BEFORE

UT
______

AFTER (a taller sibling for 510 Yonge nearby)

Yours is an improvement, Maldive, but I, for one, sort of like the original.

This is interesting info, thanks. Among the ones I would love to see some movement on are: Chelsea Green, 19 Bloor W., 372 Yonge, Canada Square, 2150 Lakeshore, and of course S. Wharf 2 and One Yonge 3.

Are there really still that many speculators in Toronto looking to buy condos to rent out in Kitchener?

I used to live in the lofts on the corner. Glad I moved since I'd be looking at 4, 45-55 storey skyscrapers being constructed for the next 10 years within 100 metres.

164-168 Isabella | ?m | ?s l Elysium Investments

This one’s bizarre (probably a zone and flip play)… don’t know how tall it actually is or if it’ll fall over.

Web-site says 500,000 square feet so it would be another monster on Isabella if built ;-). Sorry about the wall-sized pics.

Not sure if would be safe to still eat at Gabby's or over-night at the Isabella Hotel (below)

19 Bloor West | 317.4m | 99s | Reserve Properties | Arcadis l Settlement Agreement

This is bizarre… a settlement agreement with the city has been reached for this super-tall, a foot or so west of The One lol… and it’s now 16 metres taller! Settlement???

Shorter version @ 301m (no new renders):

New height:

Transportation planning is abysmal in this city. We compensate turning subway stations into town squares for tall vertical suburbs instead of building more subway stations. We remove lanes of traffic on every multi-lane street for bike lanes whether it makes sense or not while adding tens of thousands of underground parking spaces. We prioritize right exit lanes over left turn lanes on high volumne bus routes. Are we all that surprised developers are getting away with promoting elevator speed over an effective number of elevators?

This is crazy. The One could potentially be one of the city's best new landmarks yet it's going to be crowded that closely by something bland and inferior? The tallest buildings aren't even that close together in the financial district. If it was 217.4m then fine. It's not even the worst design I've seen. I actually prefer it to Sky Tower which I'm not a fan of, but that is not the place.

There are some benefits to a rich building within spitting range of a desparate one. You don't have to leave the abode to watch a deplorable live show.

Just reading and it seems 19 Bloor will now be set back 21m from 1Bloor. I want to see new renders before I form an opinion.

I forgot to post this bizarre bite out of the south elevation... supposedly in favour of the neighbouring Uptown.

Weird... and not pretty.

^I'm glad the slant in the roof was apparently eliminated. I like the design, but the rock-bottom elevator quotient is a concern.
