Possibly an expansion, but, losing two franchises is a lot more likely. Though, embarrassing, I'd imagine.

I do suppose if they had the choice of losing a franchise like Florida or moving it to Hamilton they just might

I don't even remember how things worked before the divisions / conferences we have now lol

But I liked the fact that Eastern / Western Canadian teams could meet in the playoffs, and not have it be the Finals!

Bettman has too much of an ego to allow two teams to fold.
Florida isn't likely moving, seeing as the owner uses the Panthers as leverage so that he can break even through the arena and complex.
Phoenix is the biggest black eye, but hey Quebec city next! (Hamilton if Ballsilie does some magic with RIM

So rumour has it Columbus can't locate Jeff Carter.

Apparently they haven't been able to get in touch with him, and he's told his agent not to call him. His no-trade clause hasn't kicked in yet either, so he's not able to veto the deal and is contractually obligated to the Jackets now.

I guess Lebron isn't the only one who doesn't want to play in Ohio.

Interesting take on this is I read that LA was happy with just a draft pick in return. They were thinking they could just buy out Brule is he didn't pass his pyhsical but the CBA does not allow you to buy out an injured player. The Oilers didn't want to give up just a draft pick, they needed to dump some salary too so insisted on adding another player to the deal (Fraser).

Welcome to the wacky world of the salary cap.

Once Jeff Carter find out that Ohio is filled with tons of cute college girls he'll show up.

Or he is gone right now busy watching hours of Rick Nash videos on Youtube.

Seriously though I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind the 60 million dollars, and he's a professional I'm sure he will show up. I mean if he loves Philly so much he can live there when he is super old.

VANCOUVER — He said he was willing to take less money in order to stay with a winner, and now Kevin Bieksa has reportedly delivered on his word.

TSN is reporting that the 30-year-old defenceman, who starred for the Vancouver Canucks in their run to the Stanley Cup final, has agreed to a new contract with the NHL team. Bieksa is due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Instead, he has reportedly chosen to re-sign with the team that selected him in the fifth round of the 2001 Entry Draft.

The deal is reported to be for five years and $23 million. Under that scenario, he would earn $4.6 million per season. The deal contains a no-trade clause.

Bieksa had six goals and 16 assists in the regular season and was a plus-32, then followed that up with five goals and five assists in a shutdown role with partner Dan Hamhuis as the Canucks went to the seventh and deciding game of the Stanley Cup final. He scored the series-clinching goal in double overtime as the Canucks ousted the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference final.

He was drafted 151st overall in 2001 and has been with the big club since on a full-time basis since the 2006-07 season.

YES he is signed, Hopefully Ehroff gets something similar, then we can afford to trade Ballard, otherwise if the Hoff leaves Ballard-Tanev will be the 3rd pairing.

Congrats to Dougie Gilmour, Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk and Mark Howe!!

3 former Leafs, not too bad at all..
I'm glad Eddie was a first balloter and Gilmour got in this time.

The only other additions I would make were Bure and Makarov (maybe Pat Burns), but they'll get in on next year's ballot for sure.

Erhoff rights traded to the Islanders for a 4th rounder in 2012. Maybe Jovocop coming back to Vancouver? Who knows.

And 2 of them won a cup with the Flames.

I know this is kind of early, but are we going to do a fantasy league this season again?

The Rangers have finally bought out Drury (another Sather gem) and the Penguins have offered Jagr a contract.

Jagr back with the Pens would be pretty cool! And their first game of the season is in Calgary Hope Crosby is back by then.

Panthers sign Kopecky to a 4 year $12 million deal. If they were going to overpay someone why not take Hagman and Stajan off our hands. Sheesh.

Ehrhoff signs for 10 yrs, $40M with the Sabres...

This contract should be rejected... even more ridiculous than the Kovalchuk contract.

Obviously Ehrhoff dreams more about money than he does about Stanley Cups. He was relegated to the third pairing during the playoffs, so I don't think he's as good as the money indicates. I'm not terribly upset about him leaving... that being said, I hope the Canucks resign Raffi Torres so he can absolutely level Ehrhoff on March 3 when Buffalo is in Vancouver.

He'll be 38 at the end of the contract, so it's somewhat reasonable I think. And 4 million 10 years from now will probably be chump change.

This years free agency class sucks.

Calgary Flames report that Feaster is close to signing Butler to a 2/3 year deal.

Or he'd rather have both. Buffalo has a decent team and arguably the best goalie in the world. They have as good a shot as anyone.
