the top ten says it all:

Empire State Building
The White House
Washington National Cathedral
Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Golden Gate Bridge
U.S. Capitol, Washington
Lincoln Memorial
Biltmore Estate
Chrysler Building
Vietnam Veterans Memorial

if that's not enough, Philip Johnson had FOUR buildings make the list... come on...

and these are just a FEW of the MANY that made me say SERIOUS? and lose all faith in the American people...

the fucking BELLAGIO mad spot 22!!!
333 Wacker_62!!!
Michael Graves' Dolphin and Swan Hotel in Olando_70!!!
Wrigley Field (i love wrigley and the cubs, but this in no way belongs on this list), AT&T Park, Fenway Park, Camden Yards, Safco Field, The Astrodome, and Yankee Stadium!!!
The Harold Washington Library!!!
The Fountainebleau Hotel!!!
NO Mies Buildings!!!
and the ONLY TWO Sullivan buildings don't even show up untill the final 5!!!

When Michael Graves, Phillip Johnson, and SPORT STADIUMS are topping your 'FAVORITE ARCHITECTURE' list, you know there's something seriously wrong with people.

anyway, that's why i started this thread way back when... check out the list yourself!

I assume many voted for symbolic/nationalistic reasons rather than for the actual architecture.

My favourite living architects would probably be Norman Foster, César Pelli, and Renzo Piano.

Some for me that come to mind quickly are Eero Saarinen and Louis Sullivan. Goldberg too. Peter Zumthor has produced some stuff I really dig, although I haven't seen a whole lot from him (I don't think he is quite as prolific as a lot of others, though).
