Calgary Occupations/Areas of Study/Interests

Just trying to get a feel for what people on this forum do for a living/study in school/are interested in. I just want to see what the ratios are in terms of studentsevelopment industry:planners:architects:whatever is.

PS- does anyone know how to start a poll?

^There's a checkbox option below when you create the thread to post a poll and then you say how many options will be in the poll. When you post the thread you can then edit the titles to each of the poll options (as well as the poll question.)

You can give it a try to see how it works under the General/Forum Tests forum.

I am an Environmental Consultant. Personal intrest in design and renovations. I follow this forum to see how my neighborhood is developing to get an idea of my property value. I like the LRT talk, but do not care for the buses.

I am always looking for renderings of the new buildings coming to town, just to see how cool they look.

IT. Which is as far away from urban design/planning/architecture as you can get.

I know pretty much nil about any of the technical discussions here. I just know what I likes to see and live in.

Office work (generally) of all kinds for a small family-owned construction company.

I enjoy architectural and construction related discussion.

I work in the energy services sector - directional drilling to be exact.

Interests are aviation (so i like the YYC & YEG threads), and am also interested in general developements throughout Alberta and Western Canada. Not only buildings but also probably moreso infrastructure (roads, transit etc).

I work in the building supplies, specifically retail in hardwood/engineered/laminate floors and most other wood interior applications.

Used to be in aviation(got my commercial license) so I'm down with the YYC & YEG threads as well. Took an interest in urban stuff once moving out of suburbia and into a place in The Bridges.

I'm an English/Science teacher in Shanghai, China.

I used to work in the process automation business for a company that sold analytical equipment to natural gas/petrochemical companies.

I am a student and former full time political consultant. I am taking political science at university, and wrote my senior public policy thesis on the planning of the SE LRT in Calgary.

So what do I need to do to get a deal on 900 s.f. of some nice oak ?

I am a project manager for a construction firm, specializing in the installation of building automation and mechanical systems in commerical / industrial buildings.

And I don't live in Calgary, but will cross post with impunity as these threads are becoming too city-centric

Performing arts, specifically music. The performing arts being a primarily urban-based endeavour, urbanism is a natural interest to myself and most people I work with.

According to Vid, I'm an underemployed middle-aged gay man with too much time on his hands.

But I also moonlight as a sociology professor at the U of C.

IT here as well, currently the web administrator for Social Sciences at U of C. Also currently working on a Comp Science major.

Construction, transit, etc is all a hobby to me, along with photography (which ties nicely in between everything else)

So now that your not going anywhere, you'll have to hook me up as well with 850 sq. feet of oak as well.

Hahah.

I'm serious.

I don't do anything related to architecture or development. it's just a hobby of mine. I'm a project manager, and lived previously in Dubai, and the UK. During my time in Dubai, I started taking an interest in high rise buildings. Strangely enough these days, I don't like the direction Dubai is going at all. The forum has helped me look at things from different angles.
