Hello, Leader. Good to see you. Frankly, we expected Germany too, still proud to have beaten them somehow since they've been the best indeed for these last years.

Don't be sorry. The Portuguese are a good people for real. No undeserving winners at all. They are a hard worker people. So we have to be glad to them.

When you have time and come back, enjoy some further strolling if you will. There are countless Haussmannian, Belle Époque and any older era buildings all over the central fabric. So many that it's kind of random, like some endless museum you get tired of in the end...

My entire country, including slaves has worked very hard for centuries to build this whole thing, just like the Portuguese hard workers. So I'm proud of it, but I like modernism much better now. Cause that's where innovation and future are, right?

Have to admit I was rooting for Portugal in the final. They deserved to finally win a title. Also felt kind of bad for Ronaldo. But yeah, Paris is amazing. Really different from German cities that are such a mess in many ways for those interested in architecture.

Hold on for a decade or so, then Germany's towns will be sexier again.

Frankfurt is looking pretty good yet. I have no idea whether it's tied to "Frankreich" or something, there's nothing as a reich left over here. That kind of fantasy disappeared.

When I was a teen, I was a fashion victim and learned Spanish. I know nothing much of the German language. I kinda know the culture, though, because of elders...

Whatever, I predict a lot of success to Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg...

You could see the Crillon is still being renovated. That twin structure you got on your last picture is called hôtel de la Marine.

It's been a little while since the last time I crossed the square. I'd like to have scaffoldings and workers to the Crillon visible to everyone, so we all could see their work, but for some silly reason they hide it all behind some fence showing a picture to scale of the façade. Hiding the work is dumb.

I find these 2 twin buildings from the 18th century are the most responsible for the monumental aspect of the Concorde square with the Neoclassical Madeleine church (that's slightly more recent, from the early 19th century) in the background, as seen from the square on your 1st picture of the previous post. Good quality pictures BTW. Too bad cars still occupy most of the public space right there, isn't it? It could easily be something lovely to pedestrians and bikers. Either locals or tourists would enjoy it.

I forget who purchased and is renovating the Crillon hotel. An investment fund from the Middle East, I believe... Yes, it's now owned by the crown of Saudi Arabia. I think it's been some of their strategy lately. They've been purchasing some historic properties like this over here, foreseeing a potential decline of the oil industry and converting a bit of their assets to solid estate like this.

Yeah, Place de la Concorde would IMO be far better if the cars were to somehow disappear and people could just walk around the entire square. Perhaps some grass here and there, along with some modern fountains.

Some little lanes for cars are still cool, even necessary. For delivery men and movers at the very least, and then rich people that won't meet anyone because they're too scared, incidentally.

You see la Défense? The overground deck is cruelly missing lanes meant for cars. It's been entirely designed for pedestrians with car lanes (i.e. some sort of large messy roads) hidden beneath the gigantic deck, and it sucks. It's been a huge problem; many locals don't like it, especially those who totally need their cars or trucks for working, and I'm not talking about the rich at all here.

Our public spaces only need to be fairly balanced. A few little lanes for cars and trucks, a couple for buses and bikers, and a lot of pleasant room for pedestrians.

Then I might finally be happy.
