You know, it strikes me that the concrete of the tower wouldn't look so bad if it were roughly the same light colour as the adjacent fire station. I'm not even suggesting altering the base, the contrast would be aesthetically pleasing. I know, however, that in reality it'd probably come off cheap looking and be poorly executed if attempted.

J'étais surpris de toujours voir la petite maison blanche abandonnée entre l'hôtel et la caserne (http://goo.gl/maps/5ozs7). Hey yarabundi, a potential future sliver site! (zone 65m/23 étages)

[edit: ok non, je vois sur la dernière photo qu'elle fait partie de l'hôtel... bizarre qu'ils la garde]

Once again it all depends on the materials. Waxed concrete tends to keep a lot cleaner than the cheap prefab panels we usually get served in this city (see: Louis boheme, Concordia ghetto). The render kinda looks like it could/might be waxed concrete, but of course there is no telling whether this will turn out to be the case.

Incroyable. Montréal est sur une lancée!... And we like it !

What is especially impressive is that they tore off all of the old facade: http://www.imtl.org/montreal/image.php?id=7564&im=2

They did a good job of mimicking its appearance.

Another important thing in this case was the choice of appropriate windows. That's what separates this project from something like Rhythme Condos which is using inappropriate generic windows instead of something that suits the building.

Considering that the building hasn't looked good in a while, anything but the old facade was good

last i looked, they were doing residential at the street level at that clermont lofts project otherwise looking good.

as for the tour des canadiens 2, did people read that article? «Au dernier trimestre de 2012, 64 % des unités en projet au centre-ville, dans le Vieux-Montréal et dans Griffintown étaient déjà vendues », signale-t-il. wtf, wow, the market is far stronger than i had believed possible. if the analysts at candarel and cadillac-fairview are seeing a market strong enough that they'll be moving ahead with a new residential tower in the fall and potentially another 500k sqf of office, that's something. for a longtime montreal cynic, i'm very impressed.

the best thing about the repopulation of the core here is that once we hit critical mass, future development will become easier and more frequent, they won't require a residential property boom, they'll just become normal as the downtown gets hot enough to sustain development independent of cycles. that's how mtl's core was built and it makes one salivate to imagine it happening again. as long as we get good pedestrian-oriented development with street commercial, that is...

I was on the 14th floor of the JMSB today, and I really had a great view of both Altitude and Le V. The impact of these two towers is great!

I only took a mediocre cell picture, but I'll post it a little later regardless.
