Maybe it's on the stretch of O'Farrell that's in the Tenderloin and they'd rather not draw it (accurately that is)

MYSTERY BUILDING IMAGE posted by Urbannizer

I found the image to be strange immediately as well. A Rolls Royce? I haven't seen one in many years on the streets of San Francisco.
Farrell is a font type. I think that solves one mystery. It is not O'Farrell Street. I went to the link & could find no further information on the highrise as proposed.

Blocks 1 and 9 Transbay

Does anyone know if there are any proposals for Block 1 across Folsom Street from the Infinity? Also, for the bus terminal blocks after the move to the new terminal? Also, for Block 9? There was a pretty decent plan circulating last year, but I can't find any recent references and wonder if it was shelved.

The current temporary Transbay Terminal will become Transbay Park:

Transbay Park should have a fountain. SF needs more fountains. Chicago has three times as many fountains and is frozen half the year.

O'Farrell isn't that long so there are only so many possibilities, if it is indeed on it. There is this potential development that was mentioned on SocketSite in December. They had the below rendering, which looks nothing like this one, but perhaps it was a mere placeholder and the one Urbannizer posted is closer to the real proposal:

I would certainly be happy if that was the case.

that transbay park rendering makes the area look so soulless, like something out of the "new south" or like china or vancouver or something. depresses me.

^ peanut gallery, yeah, assuming that the rendering is for a project in sf but just poorly done and that this is a discarded proposed design, that is the best guess at the site. i really scoured my memory trying to get a handle of what site it could be and though i could think of a few large/possibly secretly consolidated sites in the soma, the zoning just doesn't line up. asking for a variance in this city is like asking a cop for drugs, as we all know, so the o'farrell note makes sense. anyway, if this is the case, that design never got off the ground. only other site i could imagine (but doubt) is that goofy parking structure block across from the slum hilton.

Definitely the same site. You can see the Xpress Market building at the corner of Jones at the far end of the block in that rendering.

yeah the park is totally "blah" IMHO... let's just hope the rendering is not the final product.

I'm almost certain those park renderings are placeholders. I seem to recall that being mentioned when they were created many years ago. Besides, it wouldn't make sense to fully design the park back in 2008, knowing it wouldn't be built until 2016 at the earliest. There will be various reviews, community input, etc before it is finalized.

100 Van Ness Avenue

The new facing on the building is over half way done. While I find the new skin better than the former concrete skin, to my taste it is a wee bit busy. This is a view from the 14th Floor of the Essex Fox Plaza laundry facility on 02/21/2014.

There's no limit to how many socks I would lose doing my laundry that high up.

100 Van Ness Avenue - view from the Hayes Valley

This is a view from the spot where the elevated freeway used to be. The view is from Hayes St. near Gough St. The area used to be very scary at night with high crime. To get a sense of how the area may change with the new high rises nearby, visit on a weekend. The sidewalks are crowded with people, restaurants are full and shops selling shirts at $170. Unlike the area near the CalTrain station there is a good sense of being in a community.

Colemonkee - you'd lose more than a sock if you were on the 27th floor during an earthquake! I've been through a few :>)

I drove down Mission today. The base of the tower crane is up for 1400 Mission, the hole for 1415 Mission is deep and is certainly wrapping up, and crews were hard at work for 1321 Mission. The new Hampton Inn is rising rapidly, as well.

If SF wanted to be like some other peer cities (ahem Philadelphia), we could have a whole new thread for each of these ~10-20 story buildings and truly dominate the construction board! Also, the new Cathedral Hill hospital demo work is progressing really rapidly - can't wait to see that huge block rebuilt with a new hospital tower.

Yes, I can agree to the "new south" sentiment. Would be a step up for that region, but we are allowed to be design/planning snobs here in SF given what we have and what we're used to!

I can't think of another neighborhood in the country undergoing as much change as Rincon Hill and the Transbay redevelopment district. What's actually under construction right now in each adjoining ~5 square block district:

Transbay Redevelopment District
1. Transbay Tower - 61 floors, 1,070 ft, 1,370,000 SF
2. 181 Fremont - 54 floors, 802 ft, 411,000 SF (and residences on top)
3. 350 Mission - 33 floors, 455 ft, 420,000 SF
4. 535 Mission - 27 floors, 378 ft, 307,000 SF
5. 222 Second - 26 floors, 370 ft, 430,000 SF
6. Foundry III - 10 floors, 150 ft, 285,000 SF
7. Transbay Terminal - $4B transit terminal designed by Cesar Pelli

Proposed - 50 1st St, two towers between 600-900 ft, possibly more.

3,223,000 SF of office space under construction on 6 different adjoining blocks. Of this, only 564,000 SF (17.5%) spoken for.

Rincon Hill
1. RH North Tower - 50 floors, 541 ft, 319 rentals
2. 399 Fremont St - 42 floors, ~460 ft, 452 rentals
3. 45 Lansing St - 39 floors, 430 ft, 320 rentals
4. Lumina Tower 1 - 40 floors, 400 ft, 655 condos in entire development
5. 340 Fremont - 40 floors, 400 ft, 348 rentals
6. Lumina Tower 2 - 35 floors, 350 ft, 655 condos in entire development
7. 299 Fremont - 32 floors, ~320 ft, 556 rentals in entire development
8. 333 Fremont - 8 floors, ~80 ft, 83 rentals

Between these towers you have 2,078 new rentals and 655 new condos, all rising together.

It really is incredible how many projects are underway. If you include recently completed projects, you add another 550 apartments between Rincon Green and Rene Cazenave Apartments. And Transbay Block 9 with 563 apartments should break ground this year too.

Jerry, as your later photo shows, the new facing is much sleeker and streamlined on the front of the tower, as it also is on the sides. I think they only put all of the added busy features on the back just to keep you Fox Plaza residents entertained.

I recall reading elsewhere that the total height of the building will be 440' with a 400' roof. We should verify that--the more height, the better!
