Skyline shots of Calgary from the Bankview district

15 minutes later from an angle further up the hill, just as the sun went below the horizon

Nice...some different perspectives to say the least.

I love the characters you see walking down town, usually I don't have the balls to take a picture of them.

It helps to have balls if you're born a male!
Thanks EE!

For those of you who do not get into the photography section here are a few shots that I took today down south of Sirocco golf course (south of Spruce Meadows)

Just bought a new camera, myself (well, have to go pick it up at Bestbuy tomorrow or so)

Any of you experts want to go for a walkabout to show me how to use it? (yeah, I have no idea!)

I bought a Canon Rebel T1i. Do you guys use tripods when you take these?

Tripods are best used for long exposures, awkward camera placement, when you want to very precisely align your camera, or when you want to keep movement to a minimum (Macro comes to mind). Your lens will probably be a Canon 18-55mm IS, and the Image Stabilization in it will fairly well negate the need for a tripod in some cases.

First thing you should do with your camera is not use it in Auto mode. (The green box)

Interesting shot, Jimby, where was that taken from?

I was walking the other direction from there on Saturday, from downtown and ending up at the Max Bell train station.

Haven't really seen many views of downtown from the east/west before. Makes an interesting angle.
