Yes the cocoon will go up to floor 92. I was looking at aviation charts for the NYC area and they show tower 1 under construction with a overall height of 1,792' to the lightning rod and 1,806 above mean sea level. The ESB is 1,454' and 1,505 above mean sea level. The original north towers overall height was 1,727' to it's lightning rod but the height today counts like the Burj and many other buildings.

Well I guess I'll go Simon and Garfunkel here, and just acknowledge, that it is the 'Hazy Shade of Winter'.

It is technically at the top of floor 91. 92 is still above it.

Most of NYC is pretty smoggy, but the closer you are to the ocean the better it is. The level of air particulates in Battery Park is about half that of midtown Manhattan, for example.

I really wish they'd had an observation deck on the roof, it was a major bummer that they didn't. We should be allowed inside the spire.

Problem with that is the spire is very narrow...I think it's only gonna be 20 feet wide at its widest part....so you can imagine how impractical it would be to allow the public access to it.

Besides, doesn't the spire have a bunch of communications equipment inside of it? Agreeing with Davidsam's point, it would also be impractical in the long run. It would suck more than ESB's 102nd floor observatory, in terms of claustrophobia.

Time for another reminder: This thread is about 1 WTC/ the Freedom Tower and its construction. It's not about other towers, so please don't try and make it so. BTW, just because someone posts something off topic doesn't mean you have to respond. The PM function should be working for everybody.

Spire's narrow? In terms of observation deck or generally speaking spires? Imean, look at the narrow structure of the Statue of Liberty

There isn't much room in the spire of One World Trade Center top put an observation deck. Besides the Statue of Liberty is much wider than the spire of One World Trade Center so it doesn't count.

Also there are such demands for a higher view of NYC there are helicopter tours. You just have to pay 100 dollars and you get several hours of rides. They fly higher than the observation deck of the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center and they can move around giving you more observation of NYC and the surrounding areas than before.

Thanks, I've always wanted to do that but I don't trust helicopters..they just don't seem reliable because of past news stories

Several hours?! Definitely costs more than that if it's gonna be that long. Once a few years back, I went on a Helicopter tour in NYC and was charged $200 for 10 minutes.

EDIT: I checked the link you posted. It's $129 for 12 minutes. Sorry, I didn't want to prove anything, and had no arrogant intentions. I just almost had a heart attack thinking I was cheated out of a helicopter ride

Damn it is expensive. I just took a better check. I should read more next time, but at least it would fly you above the World Trade Center which is what most people want.
