I wish

They've got a bulldozer on site and I think they started breaking up the pavement on the lot today, so it's a start...

It's pretty cool that wind turbines will be incorporated into the design. It will be interesting to see how well this works.

There goes another surface lot! Two construction trailers are sitting on the one right next to it, also fenced up over the past week.

Excellent news!

So, we'll have Houston Pavilions, One Park Place, Discovery Tower, 6 Houston Center and Main Place all under construction at the same time. Downtown hasn't seen that type of activity since the early 1980s!

Plus, it was GREAT to see that Brookfield is still planning to move forward and to hear that the tower will now be FIFTY stories. That will make a HUGE impact on the Western/Southern skyline views.

Should this one be moved to the construction thread already? They are making fast progress on the site. They are wasting no time...

They're still doing excavation, though it is the fastest I've ever seen that process move on any site, including Legacy at Memorial. Give it a week or so (maybe a bit less) until they've finished that part. Since there's no tunnel component in the building or parking in the base, it should rise from the pit relatively quick.

Question though, since part of the other lot has been closed off for construction trailers and parking for construction workers. Any idea how much longer that whole lot will be open to regular parking?

One hasn't been mentioned in any articles or releases yet, but I can start asking around and see what comes up.

Find out who the developer or architect is. They should know and be willing to give it out. If you ask, find out how tall it'll be to the main roof and to the mechanical penthouse.

Wow, nice. I'll have to catch the rail and walk down there in a few minutes.

So the current tally for Houston (please correct me if I'm wrong):

One Park Place-- Construction 25th floor out of 37
HP- topped out, ahead of schedule for October '08 opening
Discovery Green-- scheduled to open in April '08
Discovery Tower-- construction foundation work has begun
Main Place-- construction foundation work has begun

Dang, I wish we could move this fast on the freaking rail transit!!!!!!!!!!
