You can see that the condo tower/Mint Museum portion is about to be above ground finally:

Update from this weekend - a few new photos.

About another floor and construction is going to shift to steel frame as the building tapers off to the "handle."

Here they are in the process of jacking the forms up another level:

This angle shows the new African-American cultural center that is part of the project. The tower has 7 levels of underground parking, and the service entrance is under the AACC and can be seen just to the bottom-left of the "One Way" sign on the lamp pole:

The Mint Museum/condo tower is finally above ground:

The back of the Knight Theater:

So anybody got any ideas or heard anything about if the Citigroup or Wells Fargo acquisition/merger will affect this complex?

The condo tower will probably be delayed, but so far everything else is still a go. At least Wachovia's last contribution to the city is one that will have a significant urban and cultural impact lasting several years.

Update: Oct. 16th, 2008

Maybe this project will be renamed Wells Fargo East Coast Headquarter?

You can see where they are making the setback for the portion of the tower that narrows to a point. There will be steel framing along the concrete "stair-steps."

To understand how to top will look, see this rendering:

This is the back of the Knight Theater, and behind it, to the right, you can see the Mint Museum construction.

New photos taken Oct. 19th 2008:

From the entrance to Bank of America Stadium:

The backside of the Knight Theater portion of the project is in the foreground

African-American Cultural Center is being built atop the entrance ramp to the seven levels of underground parking.

The Mint Museum portion is above ground now. The proposed condo tower portion of the project is supposed to be built atop the 6 levels of the museum, but that portion of the project may be on hold now.

Taken from Morehead Street across the I-277 loop.

Charlotte's skyline is resembling that of City Center in Philadelphia.

Which condo tower are you referring to? Bank of America had (and perhaps is still planning) a condo tower of just under 500 feet. Wachovia/Wells Fargo has (had?) plans to build a condo tower of around 450 feet or so. Then, there was 300 South Tryon, which is apparently still in the rudamentary planning stages, and may never get built. Of course, 210 Trade is toast. At least for now.

Good, never liked the condo tower design. This tower, however is awesome. It is so massive, those floor plates are huge.

Photo update from this weekend:

Mint Museum construction. The Wachovia condo tower was supposed to be build atop this. It will be 6 floors.

Betchler Art Museum and Knight Theater. The Betchler will be completely clad in terra cotta. The glas curtain is up on the Knight.

I haven't seen any concrete trucks recently so I'm not sure. If I find out, I'll let you know. Today Wachovia CEO Bob Steel said the corporate center and cultural campus are "on schedule and on budget" but was uncertain exactly how much space Wells-Wachovia will occupy.

I would think Miller & Long, United Forming, or Wayne Brothers; due to the size of this project.

Let me know if you see or hear anything.
