CTBUH would likely list it at 1,442' as long as there's an entrance from lower illinois (which there certainly will be).
I assumed lower too, the drawings in the app show secondary lobbies for hotel, condo, and apartments all on the lower level. The common lobby practically stares out at an open St Clair

but if you pan around 180° on lower illinois from the proposed site, you have "open air" on St. Clair.

we're definitely getting into a pretty gray area here.......

I agree with Dan's interpretation.
They could just be wrong, people mess up numbers all the time.

That's true. Regardless, my point was that the height was measured to the very tip of the crown, not to the top floor as you (and I) were hoping for.

Yeah, NO... that and I asked someone from CTBUH and they said upper level.

I don't see CTBUH editing the height at this time.

I see where you are coming from, but personally I don't care for this type of "respect". I just want Chicago to have a new tallest building, even if Sears is topped by just 1 ft, because the city hasn't had a new tallest building in 47 years. Am I alone on this?

No you’re not alone on this topic

1,422' is definitely from Upper Illinois, the drawing makes that clear, and Upper Illinois seems around 20" above Lower Illinois, although I kinda think it feels like even more than that at that location. But maybe not.

Unless it's a recent height bump and they just haven't updated it yet. CTBUH can be a little behind at times.

Either way it's a a 1400+ er

Am I the only one who has thought it could be cool if they attached glass pieces from all over the world to the facade of the podium?

What am I missing here? The CTBUH height is 1,422 ft as measured from upper Illinois Street. . . .

It's always been listed as this. When you said updated I thought they had changed it to 1442.

I'm not familiar with the area, is Upper Illinois 20 feet above Lower Illinois (street)?

If so it may actually be 1442 to the lowest entrance, kinda like Salesforce at Wolf Point (813 vs 835).

Super exciting though, Chicago rules!

So presumably now that official plans have been filed this will be going through the typical aldermanic hulaballoo? Or did Reilly essentially give it his thumbs-up prior to this, making it all but inevitable it's approved?
