Another (almost) million dollar donation for this project from the Winnipeg Foundation:

CBC reports that they've now reached the 60% mark for fundraising, and that the likelihood that the project will proceed is strong.

Cool. Too bad it detracts from the sculptural properties of the WAG though.

Fair criticism. I can't help but wonder how it would look if the two weren't crammed so closely together.

The Province announced that it's kicking in $15 million towards this project.

Of note is the fact that WAG officials say they are planning to start construction in the fall of 2016.

We're so lucky this province is awash in money to provide for highly sought after projects like this. Could you imagine living in a province where they ran deficits for six straight years and they couldn't afford a worthy project like this where hundreds will flock to every decade.

$30 M raised thus far, donations + funding. Price tag was pegged at aprx: $ 60 M for the project. I believe 2016 was the initial projected start date. It could actually begin in the fall as they've mentioned. I am curious though, If $15 M was anted up by the province there still is a substantial amount to be raised.

I thought the project was set to cost $45 million initially?

Yes, should have been clearer in the info I provided.. The $60M for the project includes the building as well as, endowment and programming.

Just sad it takes so long to raise funds for this when in reality it boosts our cities image and culture.

I agree. Cultural attractions are paramount in the modern day downtown, and this, as well as the Manitoba museum expansion are critical.

It's too bad the two are as far apart from each other as you can get downtown.
