Nobody said stereotypes were fair or accurate, they are more like hyperbolic mockeries that hit on some fundamental truths.
But LA is not perceived as a place of blue collar hard working salt-of-the-earth types like the Midwest.

I have a personal example:
I was in Austin for business about a month ago and one of the girls there was from our LA office, she was a cute Asian girl weighing all of about 95 lbs with a full on .."like" valley girl/SoCal way of speaking. She was incredibly excited to have BBQ because her Yoga instructor boyfriend doesn't like when she eats meat.
It was the most LA sounding nonsense I'd heard in quite a while, and I told her so.
