Never saw a single picture of Hogans Alley full of blacks. Sounds like a slight fabricated, or exaggerated history of a neighborhood from a time when Vancouver was still something like 98% European origin.

Can anyone share some pictures, census info, anything from that time of the area? I am curious and would love to be proved wrong.

Hogan’s alley was home to much of vancouver’s black community and included businesses such as vie’s chicken and steak house on union and the pullman porters’ club on main.

A place to start:

Vie's Chicken and steakhouse was the house by the dump truck, where the jimi hendrix shrine is now. After vancouver performances black entertainers like nat king cole and ella fitzgerald would go there after hours. This video has stills of sammy davis jr at vie's after hours.
