Regatta Day, baby!

A full-on holiday determined by the weather and decided by a non-governmental committee.

And it's so fun. So, Ayreonaut, his GF, and brother are visiting from Alberta. We had a busy day... and I've got a couple hours to relax before after-hours Cards Against Humanity at the cat cafe.

Picked them up in the morning at their Air B&B, owned by SSPer Copes. Awesome view - hard to drive to in the Battery but worth it.

We did a brunch. Even the tins of pop have to be hyper-local.

I thought to myself, "But why would be post an image of Hong Kong in the middle of a Montreal photo set??"

Great images as usual. Looks like the city is headed in the right direction!

Two drumlins visible in that aerial photo (George's Island & Citadel Hill). Their teardrop shape is a dead giveaway as to the direction of glacial retreat (basically south to north).

The glacially scoured lakes in Dartmouth have a similar orientation..........

Some aerial pics of the new Market Square in Stratford. City hall is a beautiful Queen Anne Revival building that an idiot city council wanted to tear down in 1970 and replace with a ten-storey hotel with a revolving restaurant on top.

Citizens protested. And saved the day. Thankfully.

What's the derelict looking warehouse thing in the background?

That's the Cooper Site, an old railway repair shop that has lain derelict for a couple of decades while passing through private hands several times. The latest owner was an asshole shyster who held the city to ransom for years. He's still in the process of suing the city for more money after the land was finally expropriated. He pulled the same stunt in another smaller city in Ontario.

There have always been vague plans to develop it, but the problem is that nobody really knows how much it will cost to clean the site up. It's probably pretty toxic after decades of use repairing trains.

Yes, that hideous monstrosity is the University of Waterloo Stratford, a school of "digital arts and design."

Should be listed in the Ugly thread.
