In what general area of concern is this announcement? I'm refreshing Twitter every 20 seconds and so far nada.

Brazos Lofts in play -- Cielo and Sutton are both bidding for the northern half of the block bounded by 4th and 5th, and Brazos and San Jacinto. This is right across 5th from 5th and Brazos.

I'm hoping it's Cielo for the win.

Towers has a nice article/photo essay about WCC and all of their project banners downtown.

I like this one - alley, dumpsters, portable toilet, downward stairs...

The thread for that project is RiverSouth (425 Riverside).

Would some knowledgeable person be so kind as to post a list of the new high-rise projects currently underway or about to begin construction downtown including height and current status. I'd like to see a list of projects that have moved beyond the site clearing stage to the point where there is actual dirt turning. Projects nearing completion do not need to be included. I know this info is available by studying the various discussions in the Austin section, but I have a hard time keeping it all straight in my head. I think there are at least 6 new or newish projects that might meet that criteria. Thanks.

I keep this thread with that info and more on Urban Planet:

https://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/t...-january-2019/

That update was December, and there have been a lot of changes since then. I have a new list ready for February that I will be posting soon.

Here's the list of the tallest projects underway:

If you've ever wanted to see inside some of these Austin tech company offices, Office Snapshot has some great photos. Oracle, Whole Foods, Indeed.com (x2), TRUcar, IPSoft, Dropbox, etc. The Biz Journal does this for some stories, but Office Snapshots have professionally-taken photos that are submitted by the architecture firms. Fun way to waste a few minutes clicking through office space eye-candy.

x-post from South Austin Updates

So I've heard some HEB-related stuff recently. Their plan is to rebuild the Congress/Oltorf store. I asked about the corner they bought across the intersection. The person said they had heard it might be used for a temporary store while the old one gets torn down and rebuilt.

Also heard HEB has some very cool restaurant ideas coming down the pike. They already have that BBQ place in Mueller. But they want multiple restaurants in one place. Think BBQ, tacos, subs, grilled cheeses/melts, shawarma/donair and more.

My greatest hope for HEB in Central Texas is that they either evolve and produce a real urban format that fosters walkability and place making or they get shoved out of the urban core by someone else that's willing to step up and do it right. I'm still offended that they bought the NE corner of Oltorf and S. Congress just to block the incredibly urban, five-story building, under ground parking and a Whole Foods on the bottom. They didn't do Austin any favors in that move. And the HEB of Broken Dreams on e 7th St could also be so much more.

They have a couple in downtown San Antonio that have a more urban feel - there is a smaller urban "market" on South Flores, even though it still has a parking lot it's less of a big box store and fits in more to the urban context, although it's still just a standalone store without any office or residential atop it. There's also a two-story HEB a little south of downtown that fits a full grocery store on a smaller lot (replaced a smaller classic HEB on a busy urban road)

That crap HEB pulled on Oltorf is making the area unsafe. It's now two 90% vacant strip malls from the 60s in prime real estate.
