It has been a while, but here are photos from the beautiful Queenstown. Queenstown is a the adventure capital of New Zealand with a nice small scale town centre.
Beautiful mountains surround Queenstown in every direction.
One of the most beautiful drive we have done is the drive from Queenstown to the small settlement of Glenorchy.
It's a windy road with very little traffic. The views are out of this world.
In Glenorchy there is a nice little walk one can take.
Back in Queenstown again.
Never knew that Kiwi birds are this big.
You know you're in New Zealand when you have lamb for dinner.
Venison was great too.
Onsen Pools nearby Queenstown is a romantic getaway from town. Is there anything better then dipping in a hot pool under the stars?
Next part will take us to the incredible Milford Sound. Stay tuned.
Time to continue my travel report with photos of a trip to the world-famous Milford Sound.
Our trip would be onboard a tour bus, so we left our faithful Ford Focus rental car in Queenstown. The only free overnight parking nearby the tour office we could find was on a steep hill which got us wondering whether or not the car would still be there upon our return...
It was cloudy heading out of Queenstown, but the sun would soon come out.
The road to Milford Sound is a spectacular drive through South Island's beautiful Fjordland.
Avalanches and landslides are a common along the road. Destruction from a previous event.
Untouched scenery.
Mountains are getting closer and closer...
High alpine parking lot just before Homer Tunnel.
Beginning to ascend on the other side of the tunnel.
It's pretty incredible how near the ocean the snowy alpine scenery changes to warm and lush rainforest!
Rock formation by water.
Arrival to Milford Sound.
At the end of the road we boarded a ship on which we would be staying overnight before an incredible flight back to Queenstown. More of Milford Sound to come.
