1945/1946 Vancouver Transit Planning Report

includes map of lines, ridership charts
featuring: Interurban lines, Street car routes, Trolley coach routes, Motor bus routes, possibility of rapid transit

It's a trip, and I'm sure some of you will get a kick out of it. How little some things have changed

Thanks for posting!

Note the words in the cover letter:

"...a transit plan such as that contained herein will be of great value in properly directing the growth of the city..."

^ On that note, our friend Zweisystem/Malcom Johnston wrote on Stephen Rees' blog that transit is only about moving people and not about shaping land use.

Transit is to move people, not shape land use. This is the mistake we have made and continue to make with our transit planning.

You wrote “Transit is to move people, not shape land use. This is the mistake we have made and continue to make with our transit planning.”

This is one of the most foolish statements I have ever seen you make here.

Anyway, that's a very interesting document about Vancouver's transit history. Thanks for posting golog.

In all honesty, transit literally IS about moving people... however it has a huge effect on land use and vice-versa, land use has a huge effect on transit/moving people.

Careful when arguing with zwei, his arguments are at times cleverly worded so that they garner support from those on the fence.

It's kind of like saying farming is about growing plants, not feeding people. Sure, literally, it's true...
