I don't mind some off-topic banter, but politics is seriously off-limits here.

Can we get back to WHY we are here?

Let me help get this train back on track:

I am open to real discussion about SLS International.
Londonee didn't say whether he was supporting Trump or not. No one is making an argument for or against him, and that this is certainly not the right forum to do so. But if it's permitted to talk about factors inhibiting or promoting development, it is completely valid to mention the effect of political uncertainty surrounding this election. If they're allowed to talk about the related uncertainty in the business press and in int'l risk analysis publications, it's totally unacceptable to censor it here.

I didn't come here to read about your political views, I came here to read about skyscraper development for SLS International.

This literally has nothing to do with politics. Its like saying banks don't want to fund new development due to new weather or hurricane concerns.. So it off base to discuss meteorology. Probably shouldn't have mentioned a specific candidate as this is clearly getting some fans upset but the forum discussion has mentioned the stock market correction a few months back as the reason for some of the construction delays.

Among those projects are the two hotels planned on South Broad Street by the Los Angeles-based hospitality mogul Sam Nazarian's SBE Entertainment Group: the 152-guest-room SLS Lux Philadelphia Hotel & Residences and the 76-room Hyde.

SBE, which has until now mostly associated itself with prominent destinations like Beverly Hills and New York, is coming to Philadelphia to serve what it sees as unmet demand for trendy high-end lodgings in an increasingly cosmopolitan city.

"We are definitely bringing a level of sophistication and a level of guest experience that would challenge any cosmopolitan opportunity in the United States," said Arash Azarbarzin, president of SBE's hotel group. "We will be another catalyst, another ingredient in this big recipe of what Philadelphia is becoming."

according to Curbed Philly construction is supposed to start this month on this project. Time will tell. Several other hotel projects have stalled. The other south broad hotel is supposed to break ground in first quarter 2017.

^Interesting to see that the Kimpton/Family Court is supposed to commence in December. That doesn't seem to fit with anything we've heard recently.

SLS International Hotel

Interesting... guess we'll see...

Quote:
Dranoff Properties and SBE Entertianment Group are behind this very tall hotel on the former site of Philadelphia International Records. The highly-anticipated project was announced three years ago, and was expected to break ground by now. But the infamous state budget impasse held up a $20 million RACP grant needed to begin construction. Now, construction on the 45-story, high-end hotel is expected to begin this month, and open in 2019. It will feature 152 hotel rooms and 90 condo units.

^ And, as Summers pointed out on another thread, the SLS groundbreaking is slated for this coming Spring, according to Dranoff's own website.

State resumes awarding grants awaited by Philly developers

Quote:
Two Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants have been announced for projects outside Philadelphia and more award announcements are expected "in the coming days and weeks," Jeffrey Sheridan, a spokesman for Gov. Wolf, said in an email.
The Wolf administration ceased awarding RACP grants during the nine-month impasse, prompting developers anticipating funds from the program to delay - and consider downgrading - their plans for the city. Impacted projects include the redevelopment of the Gallery at Market East shopping mall, the SLS Lux hotel and condo tower on South Broad Street, and the Rail Park project north of Center City.

Nope. That's the amount that was requested. A decision has not been made.
