Over the past few weeks I have been at a standstill over what to do about City City. With the addition of several new neighbourhoods, my computers are having difficulty rendering any large portion of the city in Sketchup. So I decided to take the plunge and convert all the images in the model into textures, and reverse all the faces so City City can be rendered by Kerkythea [which should also help performance]. Granted, this will be a really fucking long process, but I've got spring break to waste time in, so wish me luck.

Good luck! I can't wait to see more.

Geez, everybody has spring break right now except me. Mine is three weeks away!

(...but it's also two weeks long... )

He speaks!!

Reversing Faces makes sketchup run faster!?? Cool!! But at least give us some sort of preview of the new neighborhoods (if you can) that would be great.

Very impressive.
I had no idea that Traverse City had grown so much since I was last there!

I agree with the previous comment about it being the best of several cities.
A lot of great older architecture with at least one Mies Van der Rohe thrown in.

The texture mapping or whatever technique is used seems to be better than some of the other virtual cities.

Heh. Reversing faces won't make it run faster, but converting the standalone images into applied textures will. It'll be tricky once I get to the rowhouse district...

A preview, since you asked so nicely.

Very cool, I want to see it all!

BTW, which produces the better results in Kerkythea, exporting from sketchup as .obj or .3ds?

I just use the SU exporter for Kerkythea, it's not necessary to resave the entire file then.
