Demolition of existing building for a new condominium at 258 Victoria Street just south of Dundas Square.
Pictures by me.
258 Victoria has been on the proposed list since before Dec. 2009, that's when I made a drawing of it. I'm almost shocked to hear its finally moving forwards. http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=78928
It saddens me to see brickwork like this demolished. Even the building itself per se isn't anything fantastic, I think old brick buildings like this have certain character.
Agree. To add salt in the wound what's replacing it is garbage.

I can't understand the hate for 300 Front that most people seem to have. Saying that it's hideous, ugly, a disaster, etc... I would agree that it isn't great, but it seems perfectly normal in the skyline. I may change my mind once I see it from up close.
Some of the disappointment may stem from how this condo was marketed. They used a Louis Vuitton bag as the inspiration for the design so many were expecting an opulent building. When spandrel went up, many felt like it was a case of bait and switch.

I'm interested to see how this one turns out. Page+Steele designs are generally mediocre but this one looks like it might have potential. It's got an interesting massing (referenceing the Dubois building it replaced), a limestone base and a lack of spandrel in the renderings:
