sad that beautiful old place was allowed to fall into such a condition--poor old Detroit! But an awesome video, nonetheless!!!

Thanks!

edit: Oh, some comments made on the youtube message board about the place:
"That house is known as "Slumpy" among Detroit preservationist circles. It was moved, hence why it fell apart. It was designed by Albert Kahn, who also did the Fisher Building and the Michigan Central Station.
Here's how it used to look (take out the spaces):

The MCS was actually designed by Warren and Wetmore, who also designed Grand Central Terminal in New York.

Sorry about that. I was just quoting a youtube post. Another post pointed out the same error, but I was being lazy.

The odds? Depends:

Did the people who take this film live on the same street?
Did they take this "film" on a camera phone?
Did they toss a brick at the house?

The picture shown at the international metropolis site was originally printed in a book called The Buildings of Detroit by W. Hawkins Ferry

A somewhat similar situation happened to a friend of mine about 15 years ago. Due to a combination of greed and incompetence an old farmhouse in the centre of Oslo, the one that had given the district its name in fact, was due to be torn down any day soon. I thought the inside of the building should be preserved for posteriority and got my friend to film it.

Neither of us had seen the demolition crew had taken the back route at the very same time, and they in turn had failed to check if there were anyone in the building before starting to tear it down. The film showed a couple rooms, then shaking for a couple seconds before a short Blair Witch sequence of my friend, who's not too suicidal, running out to the best of his ability.
