If only downtown construction went at half the pace that west campus construction does...

Yeah, often times they seem to have harder deadlines with new semesters, etc.

The pictures Flatiron posted are actually Skyloft, so maybe they should be moved to the other thread.

Also, I just moved into a new apartment with a great view of Aspen West Campus and 2100 Nueces, so I will post progress pics soon

I'm guessing materials, size of the projects and general not caring about it looking perfect helps a lot on West Campus :p

STG Design has a lot of new renderings on their website. Most of them are of the interior and pool deck, but here are some of the building:

That is some nice student housing. Looks more like a higher-end building you'd expect people in their early 30s to live in. I have to wonder if this will be exclusively student housing. With these buildings getting nicer and nicer and rents being 75% or so of what a one bedroom might cost further downtown, you have to wonder if young professionals will start living in West Campus.

So this one is almost topped out? Just one more floor to go, I believe. I still wish we could get something a bit taller in West Campus. I noticed the crane for this one a few days ago from Manchaca Road, and that is the first time I've been able to see anything in West Campus from that spot.

I've often wondered that as the area has been developing more and more.

Almost all of these new buildings in west campus have mostly 4 bedroom apartments, I think young professionals prefer 1-2 bedrooms and I don't think there's much of that being built in WC anymore. Plus, as nice as these buildings look from the outside, I'm willing to bet they use absolutely crap materials inside (cabinets, counters, floors etc), based on my experience helping to design some student-oriented housing myself. If developers wanna draw young professionals to West Campus then they're gonna have to start building nicer buildings with fewer-bedroom units.

Fair point. Either way, I think it's clear that the days of some of these older 1-3 story apartments in the area overcharging are over. This area is getting very dense and the buildings are becoming more and more amenity based. But yeah, the roommate structure is a good point.

It does make me curious though if perhaps a developer might want to experiment with a building with studios/1-bedrooms. There's lots of older buildings in WC that are simply studios and if I were a student again I'd definitely want some more single-living options available rather than having to share an apartment with 3 other people.

Overall, I like it, but it definitely looks like a McMansion in the 2nd photo. All it needs is a huge SUV parked out front.
