Construction activity at the W.T.C.

Taking pictures of the site remains a popular tourist activity.

I agree. It should do wonders for Childs's reputation.

It's a pity that for future generations of tourists and visitors 7WTC will be more or less forgotten, hidden and overshadowed by its larger companion towers. But for those of us have been following the rebuild of the World Trade Center all these years now, it will always be "our First."

I think the steel is going to raise above street level somewhere next year. Is that correct?

Maybe a little offtopic, but it seems like they are starting slurry wall work on north-east side of the site (tower 2). Or at least they are erecting a big red crane, same kind what was on FT site earlier.

Does anyone know, when it's suppose to see core moving up?

Correct on the 1st question. Even though steel is being delivered one column at a time right now, the bulk of it for the infrastructure WILL start arriving sometime between year's end and early next year.

And that IS when we'll see the base start to rise above the street level.

Yes, the slurry wall (bathtub) IS being put in on the east side as we speak. Looks like the red crane was moved over to that side.

Later this summer, we should see the core start to rise more. Though when 7 WTC was being erected, no one could see the core rising.

Is this the second tallest building under construction apart from those cheating Abraj Al Bait Towers?

Do any admins actually watch these posts so they can delete the reiterative "taking too long" and "my imaginary project is bigger than yours" heh.

Yeah, don't go there. The last thing we need is another "mine is better than yours" tit for tat.

Really, I don't know why people engage in that rivalry. I am thrilled that both NY and Chicago are seeing so much activity. If my little city had just ONE of these 700+ footers under construction we'd be doing backflips down market steet drunk and naked.

I say enjoy the construction boom and be happy for all the new projects we are fortunate enough to witness. NY, Chicago, Philly, Miami, and San Francisco are all getting new tallest and it's an exciting thing to see.

^ It's amazing just seeing those cranes up close. One thing I notice as you
approach the WTC via the PATH train, is the the site is much furter along
with construction than most people probably realize.

A few more pics from the site...

MAY 20, 2007

1.

2. The new rises, but the old is not forgotten...

3.

4. Hard to imagine that the city's tallest skyscraper will rise here...

5.

6. One comes down, as one goes up...

7. Looking beyond the FT site, its only a matter of time for those stairs...

8.

9.Always a favorite viewing spot, the WFC will offer an eyefull next year...

10.

I think I know now how those cranes will work safely. They are both facing oposite direction of each other so that their masts don't collide with each other. Brilliant move!

And note the concrete truck coming down the ramp in the top pic; An indication that construction is in full swing!

That is why those crane operators get the big big bucks. they know their stuff. The old ones were built the same way but with 4 cranes which i still hold out is the way this one will rise. very impressive stuff

Not sure if this was reported but the Port Authority posted pics about 6 days ago from April.
