Breda on an early Sunday morning

Went out to Breda by bike to take some photographs this morning. Let me be clear, we are talking about Breda in the Netherlands, not in Iowa.

Here is some wiki data about Breda.

This used to be a grocery store. But the company had to throw the towel after they couldn't compete with big supermarkets anymore. This is what remains. The name of the company at the facade.

Online shopping might eventually sound the death knell for ugly supermarket boxes as well anyway. My hope is that more traditional and charming downtown-style shopping could make a strong comeback from that growing online habit, as some sort of leisure or higher quality shopping even in smaller cities. Yet another issue is that rents are crazy in larger and successful urban shopping areas. In the end, only large international franchises can afford them, whereas independent and more original shops are gradually driven away by rent costs.

Nice tour, I'm still a fan of much of the Dutch contemporary achievement. Stuff like this looks cool enough.

Never thought I would see Breda on here! I'm in that city twice a week, in fact have to go there in a couple of hours.

Nice pics but they have to have been made on an early Sunday morning or during the Zombie Apocalypse, right . Personally I like a bit of street life .

The problem is that when I go there later on a Sunday, I can almost surf the crowd at some locations. I rather have it this way. When I was at the Begijnhof it was an oasis of silence. All I heard were the church bells. I love that.

Very nice pictures of Breda. Thanks for sharing.

Breda looks very plesant and pretty. You enjoyed a very nice ride on bike yesterday. The old side of the city is very nice. Enjoyed this tour.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

I like Breda. It is a cosy city. Rather laid back. Not as fucked up as Amsterdam. I was born and raised in Amsterdam and I must say that the people overthere are rude, to put it mildly. Not everyone of course but many of them are. I still think that the old city in Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful town centers in the world but it is the whole picture that makes a town.

Nice, I've only been to city hall once, but never the city center. It appears I missed out on a treat!

The local football club is called NAC Breda, which stands for, and I kid you not, Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorzetten Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning Combinatie Breda.

In fact NAC means Noad Advendo Combinatie. Noad stands, like you said for Nooit opgeven altijd doorzetten. Advendo is like you said, Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning.

It is called a begijnhof. It is a place where religious women lived, women like nuns. Several cities in the Netherlands have courts like this; Amsterdam for example.
