See, this is what I've never understood. And not to negate what Terry Fox or Rick Hansen have done, but you really have to be be in a wheel chair or have a prosthetic leg to get any attention for any sort of ultra marathon. The Run For One Planet was done by Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait. Over the last year, they circumnavigated Canada and the USA, completing an 11,000 Mile round trip from Vancouver to Vancouver. And yet they're not even known outside of local environmental circles.

Steve Fonyo, Terry Fox, Rick Hansen have all done their thing, and we're not allowed to forget.

While I don't doubt that Mr. Fox deserves the honour, I don't think our city's main airport should be anything other than Vancouver International.

To be honest, I'd rather see an arena named after Terry Fox.

I don't want our airport to be associated with this:

And "Terry Fox International Airport" makes the airport seem small, insignificant.
Mhm I knew that was coming. It sounds better then Terry Fox though, like Trudeau or Pearson. Where are their first names. Exactly.

I like the name Vancouver International Airport....no need to waste money and change it...

Not being able to read all four pages in this thread, me thinks it should be renamed to "Robert Dziekanski Memorial Int'l Airport Vancouver" and have the IATA code changed from YVR to TSR

Poor Steve Fonyo couldn't get a job at YVR.

I don't really like airports being named after people. Terry Fox is a Canadian hero and his memory is honored every year during Terry Fox runs which take place across Canada and around the world.

BTW I don't agree that his mom should light the flame at the Olympics because she simply is not Terry Fox.

I don't understand how that group on Facebook can have 75,000 members.

I think TZR would be more effective.

My thoughts about naming everything in sight after someone is that eventually the name ceases being unique. It becomes just another name like Elm Street. You encounter it so many times it becomes unlikely that you think of the actual person when you hear the name of the school, mountain etc.

A marketing term is "diluting the brand" and the effect is the opposite of what the do-gooders intend.
