There is currently scaffolding on the north side along St. Mary Ave. so stuff is still slowly happening. Noticed the Winnipeg Inn's big sign is off that building now as well. Either it blew off in that wind storm or something else is happening behind the scenes *fingers crossed*

It was taken down a few weeks ago.

David Steinberg tours Winnipeg in 1971.

Some interesting shots of the River Rouge and the North End. If you can get past the lame jokes, it's not a bad video.

^ Good find!

Incidentally, man, has humour changed since the 70s.

I don't think I have ever seen a photo of the observation deck in its open-air days. Does anyone remember when it closed prior to reopening again in the 90s?
Well how about that... not long after I made that comment a photo of the open-air era observation deck turned up online.

I don't think that would have been very funny in the 70s either - IMO.

I think its more that the quality of our comedian talent has just increased.

^ What's really funny is that guy was (apparently, according to his Wikipedia article) one of the best known comedians of the 60s and 70s. Even directed Seinfeld episodes, among other sitcoms. A comedy legend right here from Winnipeg.

Somehow CBC did not bring out the best in him

He used to be on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson from time to time as I recall. He was really funny in that setting.
