This Spring, work has begun on the renovations of Parliament's Centre Block in Ottawa. Just east of the building, archaeologists are digging up the foundations of Barrack Hill, the military settlement of Bytown during the construction of the Rideau Canal up until we were chosen as the capital and construction on those very Parliament Buildings begun in the late 1850s.

Last summer, on Vitoria Island, gas canisters dating back 100+ years were discovered on Victoria Island. These were part of industrial experiments. It's believed 200 to 300 are buried.

Earlier in 2013, bodies were found under Queen Street during road work, part of the Confederation Line project. These were from Bytown's earliest cemetery in the middle of what is today the Downtown Core. Bones were found before in the 60s during the construction of the National Art Centre across the street and again in the 70s during the construction of an office building.

In 2017, as part of the celebration of Canada's Sesquicentennial, the bodies were re-interred at Beechwood Cemetery east of Downtown.
