My only beef with developers in this city is that inside the loop they'll flatten huge tracts of perfectly decent apartment complexes which were affordable and then sit their asses on a ugly field of broken concrete and graffiti'd fences for the next 20 years. Put up renderings of the latest and greatest mixed use project which is obviously vaporware, then cancel, and then 5 years rinse and repeat.

Remember Regent Square? The area along Allen Parkway is so far away from being a corridor of high rises, its more like a graveyard of real estate failures.

Wood Partners is starting construction on a seven-story apartment building near the corner of Allen Parkway and Shepherd, a high-end project that could be the first of a series of new developments in this area of town.

The Atlanta-based developer is building 364 units at 3636 W. Dallas St., the former home of the nonprofit Center for Hearing & Speech.

Anyone remember where the huge apartment fire was several years ago, somewhere on or near W. Dallas St.? I don't know whether the ones under construction were rebuilt or what. I guess I could research it but thought I'd first see if anyone here knows.

That site (where the apartments burned down before construction was complete) remains empty and is on W. Dallas but at Montrose, farther east.

This tract is where W. Dallas and Allen Parkway become their respective streets in River Oaks, Chilton and Kirby, just across Shepherd.

2400 W. Dallas St. - the site is said to be under contract to Alliance Residential.

Marriott’s AC Hotel brand to make Houston debut

Mixed-use development targeted for Fitzgerald’s site

A page dedicated to “Fitzgerald’s at White Oak” shows a video montage of the former building, recounts its history and outlines a plan for the future – a mixed-use development with a multi-story structure.

“We hope this will include retail and multi-family residential uses, and perhaps a street level or rooftop lounge which, perhaps in a modest way, is an homage to the history of the Fitzgerald’s site,” the website reads.

Sneak peek: Plans for mixed-use project near Houston's Heights, Washington Corridor revealed

Houston-based Gulf Coast Commercial Group is finally releasing more details on the Lower Heights District, its mixed-use project near the Heights and the Washington Corridor project.

The 24-acre project broke ground a few months ago along Interstate 10 between the Kroger on Studemont and the Target off Sawyer Street. It will feature 200,000 square feet of retail, dining and movie theater space, as well as 120,000 square feet of Class A office space and more than 600 apartment units, according to a press release. The development will also include access to the Heights Hike and Bike/MKT Trail.

Plans emerge on redevelopment of former Exxon Mobil campus

New details have emerged on a proposed mixed-use development planned on nearly 17 acres inside the Loop.

The owner of the former Exxon Mobil Research Center at the southwest intersection of West Alabama and Buffalo Speedway is seeking a building variance from the city of Houston to develop the site into a complex of high-end offices, shops and apartments.

Details of the project, which is referred to in documents as River Oaks Green but has also been marketed as The RO, include a two-phased development with eight parcels. The property is situated between Greenway Plaza and the River Oaks neighborhood at 3120 Buffalo Speedway.
