Ogden's Shadow Valley site of proposed 79-unit town home development

The ex-mental health facility is now vacant and the property owner, Intermountain Healthcare, which also operates McKay-Dee Hospital here, has been trying to sell the land, according to Intermountain spokesman Chris Dallin.

A J.F. Capital representative did not immediately respond to queries Friday seeking comment, but the firm’s plans, filed with the city, call for 79 three-bedroom, two-story town homes contained in 23 structures. The existing structures on the land would be razed and many of the trees on the plot would also be removed.

The project leaves more open space than required by city guidelines. J.F. Capital could have included up to 200 units in the development.

- Building will be called The Monarch
- Ogden City Arts has called the place the "Nine Rails" which is a creative district?

Station Park Signs Best Buy to Open New Store in Farmington
Best Buy to open in time for holiday shopping season;

12 additional retail, dining and entertainment locations to open

Tortilla Union Southwest Grill, a new concept in casual dining, opened at Station Park in mid-March, and will provide visitors another choice for dining with family, friends, or business colleagues. The restaurant features specialty southwestern dishes made with fresh, regional ingredients and includes an environment and ambience to match. The full service bar features specialty southwestern cocktails, regional and craft beers, and select wines.

“Our goal at Tortilla Union is to celebrate the spirit and flavors of the Southwest,” said Trevor Blackwell, president of Tortilla Union. “We believe that dining is all about the journey, not the destination, and that every meal can be its own celebration.”

In total, Station Park is welcoming 12 new or enlarged retail, entertainment, and dining options:

Best Buy (opening fall 2018)
Tortilla Union Southwest Grill (opened March 16)
Nike Factory Story (opening April 26)
Cooper & Violet (a local children’s boutique, opened first week of March)
Cinemark Theatre (fully remodeled in January with luxury seating)
Zumiez (relocated to the Fountain Square area in February, with an expanded footprint)
Hope Ave. (relocated next to Downeast and Francesca’s in early March, with an enlarged footprint)
Wendy’s (opened in Station Park West January 2018)
Smart Cookie (opened end of 2017 at Fountain Square)

At Station Park West, the third phase of the property, three new stores will open in summer 2018:

"The Monarch will be the epicenter of the “Nine Rails Creative District” and will be the future home to artisans, designers, and creatives of all types. The Monarch will offer restaurant, retail and event space (2500 - 10,000 sq. ft.), exhibit and collaborative space (3000 - 4500 sq. ft.), and artisan and designer creative studios (300 - 1500 sq. ft.)." If they pull it off, it could be really cool.

Nordic Valley Proposes Major Expansion, 2000% Increase in Skiable Terrain, Gondola to North Ogden

I grew up skiing at this small, family-owned ski hill. If this proposal is enacted, one of the state's smallest ski areas would grow into one of its largest and most accessible. I have mixed feelings about the changes, but I'll give credit to the new owners for dreaming big.

If the gondola in North Ogden is successful I would hope Snow Basin can try again at a gondola that starts around Weber State. A Gondola that begins in downtown Ogden was not a good idea in my opinion. The Weber State area is a natural starting point or something close to it. The drive to these ski resorts is getting out of hand. The Cottonwood canyons have become a joke on a snow day. A gondola or tram from the east bench of Ogden would be such a great addition to the city. It could totally transform Ogdens image regionally and nationally. As is, Ogden is a sleeper town when it comes to skiing. This Nordic Valley expansion and possibly a revisit to the Ogden to Snow Basin gondola would be unbelievable for the outdoor industry and hotels for Ogden. Plan it right and build it.

A lot of locals probably like it that way. As you said, the canyons around Salt Lake are an absolute mess on a snow day.

I don't think it will be. Too many people want it closer to an airport with multiple daily flights to the D.C. area.

All the stories that I have read said it has been between downtown Denver and downtown Salt Lake City due to the proximity of the large airport.

Denver was mostly ruled out by most politicians and pundits because their airport is so far away from downtown Denver leaving downtown Salt Lake City the clear front runner for the BLM headquarters according to most national people.

So while Rob Bishop would probably like it to go in Ogden, the rest of the Committee, the Senate, the Interior Department and the BLM are looking at downtown Salt Lake City.

About 400 to 500 is a good estimate. So about 250K sq ft of office space- probably less.

They are clearing the site via demolition of the abandoned structures there, save one which a developer has voiced interest in preserving. The rest of the project is still awaiting developer involvement. Here are a couple recent articles:
