It does have difference to it.. would be nice for these buildings to cross the 9th ave S barrier and build to the south .. might allow for taller buildings

I think it would be nicer to have one 85 floor 377 metre builing than to twin them. It would add soo much more to the skyline. Someone should render an 85 floor building into the skyline on this site. See how it would look.

One tower would definately be nicer, I like the design but it doesn't work well as twins.

I think this design does work well as twins, but is cheapened by the fact that there are so many of them.

Once they get into the ground, signing tenants will happen, and that is the only thing holding up the construction of the tower. With this building, potential tenants were probobly just waiting for something to happen on the site, so they knew when the project was going to go ahead.

The Project is officially under construction, whether the towers go ahead will be determined at a later date, but for now, everything is a go. Remember it will take nearly 2 years to reach grade, so anything can happen.

Well, I guess that's it, huh? This project which is clearly u/c will remain as a proposal until either a major tenant is announced or (cringe) it reaches a couple stories above grade.

btw does anyone know what the bridge like structure is in the middle of the site?

A Scale. To measure the weight of the soil they take out, I would assume. I don't know specifically why they would do that though.

Typically they are used to make sure the trucks aren't overloaded (the route to the site where they are taking the soil may have a weight restricted bridge, for instance). They have one up on the Stoney Trail @ Crowchild site as well that I've seen some of the larger trucks stopping on)

CALGARY | Eighth Avenue Place | 689 FT / 210 M | 51 FLOORS

The project was originally a two tower project, but the second tower may or may not get built.

Surreal has opened a highrise construction thread, so this one should probably be closed down.

As nice as the extra height may be having the second tower, enough twins have been built and unless they modify the design, it is probably better they only make it a one tower development.
