Why does everybody say the Eiffel Tower is ugly?

Every person I know who's been there always says it's not a pretty structure, and in fact really ugly up front and in person as well as from afar.

I don't understand this, I always thought it was a beautiful structure from every angel. How do people possibly think it's ugly?

I certainly don't say it's ugly.

Maybe I've been exposed to a unique group of opinions, but from what I've heard they think it's hideous. Just trying to understand why. lol
