World's tallest hotel planned for tiny Swiss village

http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/31/travel...and/index.html

Quote:
(CNN)Mention of the Swiss Alps usually conjures a rush of pleasingly nostalgic images.

Snowy mountaintops.

Rosy-cheeked goatherds.

Triangular chocolate bars.

And gigantic glass skyscrapers.

OK, maybe not the last one, but that could soon change following a controversial decision to construct what will be western Europe's tallest building -- and the world's tallest hotel -- in a tiny Swiss village.

At 381 meters (1,250 feet), the reflective glass-covered 7132 Tower, planned for completion in 2019, will be same height as the Empire State Building.

If it ever gets off the ground, the "transparent and slim" luxury hotel and spa complex will offer unprecedented views of the Swiss scenery.

It'll also dwarf the mountain community of Vals, in southeastern Switzerland, home to about 1,000 people and, by some estimates, roughly the same number of sheep...

My family is from Switzerland and I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time there. I highly doubt something like this would ever become a reality. Also, has there ever been a supertall built outside an urban area?

I actually flew to Switzerland for 6 times to seeing my brother & my nieces, as well. He lived in Basel, Switzerland. I had a great trip and it's very long flight. I was so extremely tired for flying. I'm exhausted. We don't see supertall building in Switzerland.

A cool idea but really doesn't make a lot of sense because the whole point of being in the mountains is that you can go to the top of one to get a great view so it actually makes more sense to build a mountaintop hotel or restaurant like Piz Gloria of James Bond On Her Majesties Secret Service fame. Unless there is that huge of a demand for hotel rooms in this Swiss village.

Edit: After reading the entire article apparently the tower will have only 107 guest rooms (one per floor?), I guess also following the trend of very slender buildings that don't have tons of floor space. I guess the idea is to give guests the feeling of being "up in the Alps" without actually being on an Alp.
