Too funny 2R. Thank you for delivering my first laugh of the day. Incidentally, I agree with you on naming a building the "Freedom Center" and placing it next to an ICE facility. It's not easy to achieve pompous and ironic in two words.

Oh, thank god, it has staggered windows. I was afraid there might be a new housing project without them. And they didn't miss out on the pop-out sections fad either. All it needs now is a corny n... oops. I forgot. It has a corny name.

I'm glad it's being built, but I think it won't be too long before we look back on this era of architecture with an eye roll.

Saw this on neighborhood notes:

http://www.portlandonline.com/bds/in...47126&a=357972

2 buildings actually:

NW 19th and Johnson: 98 units in 6 stories, below grade parking.
kitty-corner: 47 units, 6 stories, ground floor retail and parking

Maybe a little more time should be spent designing. Seriously at what point is poor design measured by its waste of materials and carbon to build this work?

Just found this thread, it's cool to see progress on a building that I had a small (rather insignifigant) part of before its construction. Earlier this year, I was on my school's LEED Construction team, and we won 1st place for a project that was based on the Vestas HQ renovation. (Skanska is the GC and sponsored the LEED competition) I know more about the rainwater collection system on that building than anyone probably should. The trophy we won is actually made from a piece of the building:

I'm pretty excited to see Mellow Mushroom just opened up on NW 14th and Flanders. It's damn good za. I've been to their Asheville and Raleigh restaurants and both were excellent. Cool that Portland has one too.

Just looked it up, definitely looks like a place worth trying.

Hotel Planned for the Pearl District at NW 9th and Marshall. Following link for uninspiring rendering.

Also, that awful strip mall at 15th and Glisan has been bought and may home to a hotel as well, per the link above and this Oregonian article.

Wow, this is exciting. Wasn't this space going to be an office building? I believe Hoyt owns or owned this block. Google Map link.

Uninspiring, yes (thanks Sera!), but man I'd take almost anything on that vacant lot that has been sitting there for so many years...

I did find it interesting that one of the renderings shows One Waterfront Place. Wtf?

OOOOH. I completely misunderstood where this was. I was thinking it was down on the N Park Blocks. Yes, I'd love to see something built here, this makes much more sense.

It will have an indoor pool...can't say that about too many "downtown" hotels in the area. Just saw it will be a Residence Inn.

Oy! That really is ugly, but it'll still be great to have it built on that lot (I added the link since we've moved on to another page here).

Any idea what the story is with the block to the north of this one? East side of 9th, north side of Northrup?

There was also talk about a Wyndham time share...not sure if this is the same block? I think the rumored W (or other luxury brand) is intended for another location.
