I'm actually trying to get through a Windsor Square article right now. They do seem extremely bias. I also don't care much for the writing style. If they could cut down on the pet name calling that would be a first good step in making their literature more tolerable to read.

^^^ Exactly, any real point they try to make is lost due to their childish antics and one sidedness.

I bet a majority of the Windsor Square writers moonlight as trolls on the Windsor Star comment boards.

The local newspaper comment boards seem to be this way in every city though, it's not just an issue here. While people can still make phony fb accounts, after the London Free Press switched over to that it seemed more civilized overall. Same deal with the Detroit Free Press.

I bet you're right, they just seem to go out of their way to somehow blame the mayor for every story that is printed. Regardless of content, good or bad, they'll find a way to blame Eddie for it.

Looks like the Belle Isle Indy is back for 2012

http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2012/01...to-belle-isle/
Quote:
The IndyCar Series will return to the area this year for the first time since 2008, and some of the drivers who will compete in the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix from June 1-3 were on hand during the weekend at the North American International Auto Show to discuss what it means to have open-wheel racing back on Belle Isle. “With the return of Chevrolet to the series, it’s huge coming to the Motor City,” Penske driver Ryan Briscoe said. “With them being the sponsor of the race, and also our engine of choice, of course it’s going to be huge race for Penske as well with Roger’s involvement.

“It feels great to be coming back here. It’s been a while. It’s just natural, and it’s a great circuit as well. It’s a very well put-on event. I’m very excited for sure.”

Teammate Will Power believes a Detroit race is not only a natural for the circuit, but a necessity. “It’s especially good for us, because we are a Chevrolet team,” Power said. “Having Chevy back in IndyCar, I think it’s great to have a race in the city. It looks great on TV with the city of Detroit in the backdrop.”

Briscoe’s memories of the race at Belle Isle from 2007-08 are nothing but positive. “The track is pretty good,” Briscoe said. “You’ve got different kinds of surfaces around the track. The fountain area is quite bumpy, but there are other sections likes Turns 1 and 2 that are quite fast and smooth. It’s a technical circuit, but along the back straight, down by the river, there’s always attempts at passing and good racing. It’s a perfect street course.”

Meanwhile, Power is of the opinion that the return of the Detroit race is yet another sign of how open-wheel racing is once again gaining a foothold among the collective consciousness of North American racing fans. “There’s a depth of talent in the series now which has made it a really competitive series,” Power said. “If you look at any of the qualifying sessions we have, especially on road courses, the whole field is separated by a second. In general, we have around 30 cars for qualifying, which shows that the competition is better.

“We’re not struggling to get cars entered, we’ve actually got more than enough each week. Obviously this year, with three manufacturers now involved, it’s trending on the way up.”

These old row houses that have sat empty for a number of years on Erie street west are going to be torn down

http://windsorite.ca/2012/01/long-ab...ished-tuesday/

This image on the website is a snapshot from Google maps, and if you remember Google came through town back when Windsor was going through it's CUPE strike, so everywhere the grass is long and you'll see garbage piled up in certain places. lol

Quote:
A series of boarded-up and burnt-out townhouses on Erie Street in Midtown will finally be demolished under the City of Windsor’s blight mitigation strategy.

The City of Windsor’s Building Department is proceeding with demolition of an eight-unit townhouse building located at 501 Erie Street West between Bruce and Janette that has sat vacant for over half a decade and costs for demolition will be added to the taxes of the property owner.

Bylaw inspectors have paid 84 visits to the site since around 2005 and issued 12 building orders. Since then, the site has been borded up and secured by the City to prevent illegal access and the potential for vandalism and fires such as one nearby at 411 Elliott in 2011 which cost the fire department $17,561.31.

Demolition is scheduled for this Tuesday January 24th.

I hope they focus their attention to the east of the casino area now, there are so many homes there that need to come down asap. Hopefully once they are torn down a full scale redevelopement of the area can become reallity.

But Google came back and redid the entire city in early 2011 - no idea why those images still haven't been posted.

Oh! I never noticed, but I did notice if you view downtown Windsor and you zoom in up close it changes to a cool aerial view, but if you scroll to far, say pas the casino it changes to the traditional top down view. You will only notice this changed view if you ae looking at say the area of the art gallery and zoom in close.

^ I've noticed that but the only reason those areas have been updated like that is because it coincides with their premium coverage of downtown Detroit.

It's interesting, you say they updated the images for Windsor in 2011 but my Google maps app on my iPad still shows the Docherty hole @ Riverside and Chruch with the infamous light green construction hoarding up... So I guess not everything has been updated.

No, I said they haven't updated the imagery. The cars were back in town in early 2011 but nothing has been put online.

These numbers, while dissapointing, were expected by me, with all the manufacturing jobs that have dissappeared here in the last decade.

I'm actually optomistic about the future here though, as we're transforming our economy into a healthier mix of employment options and moving away from heavy manufacturing. The crappy part is having to wait another 5 years for the new numbers to come out.

So, I hear a lot of people screaming at Eddie Francis and calling for an Enwin audit in light of the Auditor General being fired.

I like Eddie Francis and voted for him, but 3 auditor generals in the last 4-5 years is starting to seem fishy.

I'm not too worried about it, we don't know the facts, so I'm not gonna jump to conclusions about anything. When the facts come out we'll know then, so I refuse to speculate like all the Eddie haters ot there.

I personally feel that Eddie is smart enough to know not to do anything that is shady. Sure there may have been decisions made that might look bad, but in the big picture, I'm sure he is doing what is right for the city, and not for his own benefit.

I agree, he's too smart to do anything stupid. There have always been lots of vocal haters because of the way he has stood up to the unions and everything. They're in the minority though. Ken Lewenza Jr is almost as big of a joke as his dad.

That Eddie Francis Truth bus tour he did yesterday was so ridiculous. So pathetic and another attempt by those forces to cast doubt in the mayors' ability to run the city cleanly. It just shows the desperation of their side. I love his disclaimer at the beginning of the tour that everything he was saying is just his "opinion", and not documented truth. So then what exactly is the point of this? Oh yeah, try to create the idea of wrong doing when there is none. It's what they do best, and the sad part is that some people will fall for it.

So the bar that has been around forever, Charly's is officially closing within a few days.

source:http://windsorite.ca/2012/02/charlys-brew-pub-to-close/

Quote:
Charly’s Brew Pub at the corner of Tecumseh Road East and Pillette will be closing in April.

The home of the TimeOut Brewery — Windsor’s only brew-pub — and popular Thursday-night watering hole will close on April 20th 2012 according to a sign on the front of the building.

Reports from employees and long-time customers on Facebook say that the reason for the closure relates to insurance.
The bar had been open since 1951.
