I'm glad Huntsville is investing heavily in the VBC. It's nice to see the two largest metros in Alabama recognize the need to bring in large groups of people for reasons other than individual work/business/family visits.

I don't know the number of hotel rooms within a mile of the VBC, but if the city can achieve 1,000+ it can really start to draw some major conventions cities like Nashville, Louisville, Indianapolis, Richmond, and now Birmingham are able to attract.

A diversified economy is always a healthy one!

EDIT: Propst Arena... I'm sorry, but considering the size of the Huntsville area, and as fast as it is growing... a larger arena is needed. I know that the arena was very recently renovated/upgraded, but the city is going to need something that seats something 15,000 or higher in the future.

Since the merge of AIRTran with Southwest Airlines, Huntsville has not had the HSV-MCO (Orlando) route.
This will change with Silver Airways.
For those heading to Bahamas or southern Florida this is awesome news.
Here are the current Silver Airways routes.

Huntsville is already added in the booking system but no flights are available yet.

When was this announced? I haven't seen anything about it online.

Several sources posted this news.

https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...onstop-Service

http://www.al.com/business/index.ssf...egin_dail.html

to name a couple.

This is great addition to HSV international. Within the next 5 years, I'd expect more direct flights in/out of HSV, especially when the Toyota/Mazda plant is built.

United is adding a bunch of scheduled flights to the same destinations HSV already has.

I wish we had direct service to

* NY
* Miami (or FLL)
* Salt Lake City (for further connections with Delta)

and a low cost airline with an Atlanta service.

Unfortunately for HSV, the airport will be competing with BHM's multiple flights to Orlando especially now that both Southwest and Frontier.

HSV is really going to have to heavily market to North Alabama and South Central Tennessee to make this work.

Not unless SilverAirways merges with SouthWest.
The AirTran HSV-Orlando route was always full.

Silver flies FAR smaller aircraft than Southwest and Frontier. If Silver were to somehow merge with Southwest, I guess it would depend on how full those Silver flights were and if Silver added additional destinations due to increased demand; only then would it make sense for Southwest to maintain that presence at HSV.

Exactly.
So as long as SouthWest does not merge with Silver, HSV will have this flight.

Note that HSV is the only AL destination for Silver - all the rest are Florida and Bahamas.

cool

Does anyone know what is holding Constellation development?

All other major projects in and around downtown seem to have taken off.

Constellation still has the same lonely tractor on the NE end of the land, tarp barrier, and pretty much that's it.

Totally agree! Downtown need first class architecture. How hard can this be?

Hopefully Constellation will blow us away.

It already does - Constellation definitely blows.

I would not be surprised if Mr. Scott McLain has chosen to abandon the project altogether or wait till cows come home.

I'm glad to see the hotel progress at CityCentre.
That one should look impressive when done.

I've been waiting for Constellation since I was in high school in Decatur...

Someone needs to purchase that property, take an inspiration from Asheville, and make a fortune.

That land is the most prime urban real estate in the entire Tennessee Valley (AL, MS, TN, etc...). There is some major wealth not being created because of this laziness.
