Yea I know but I have a feeling they'll put up lights there cuz they know drivers are too lazy to drive 100 metres to the next intersection.

Bing Thom’s Michael Heeney to Lead Surrey Development Corp

I think this is an incredibly exciting news. Hopefully this means more landmarks and less templated condos in the future!

He is a very good guy.
Though, could Surrey become any more of a Bing Thom insider's group?

Likely not on the less templated condos given Surrey Development Corp isn't part of the development process for the majority of projects. It is actually an arm of the City of Surrey and a developer in its own rights in essence (sort of). So yes likely some more landmark projects but they mostly focus on city owner land development and partnering with other developers from time to time to push the city's goals.

Just saw a big crane on the corner of Anthem's Surrey lot, on Whalley Blvd and 102. But it was raining and I was walking, so I didn't go over to investigate.

Any ideas what's going on there?

Went by it today and it's just sitting there alone with an old motorhome next to it. On Friday there were 3 school buses parked by it, but they're gone now. But no, not sure what the deal is.

Interesting names these Surrey Central developments are choosing, ie. West Village and now Georgetown, which also happen to be impossibly chic inner city neighbourhoods in Manhattan and Washington DC respectively.

Georgetown will also be situated on King George Blvd. It plays into that name as well.

At long last, that hideous rat-infested relic at King George and 64th comes down. See for yourself: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...tion-1.4297856.

Yeah but it sounds like it's getting replaced with a strip mall and one 6 storey typical condo building

Few details, but it sounds like this mystery party wants to move fast.... Be interesting if its 5 or 20 thousand seats

He mentions "a few thousand" seats, so I don't think it would be 20. Only teams that could fill that would be the Whitecaps or the Lions, and I imagine they're both happy at BC Place.

Maybe it could house the rumoured Fraser Valley CSL team? There are also rumours of pro rugby making its way up here but that's still in the very early stages and I doubt they'd build a new stadium for that.

Looks like the article was updated this morning to reveal the mystery party as the "Canadian Premier League".

If they changed it to primeira liga, they would just sell so many more tickets.

Surrey should focus on building an arena close to Skytrain which could be used for WHL hockey, varsity sports, and concerts.

If the proposed stadium does actually come about, it will most likely be built next to Scott Road station.
