Unfortunately it is cost prohibitive these days with only one manufacturer still making it, and the price of gold where it is. We likely aren't seeing it come back in use for any significant amount of time.

Not sure what's happening - no one there to ask given it was a Sunday afternoon - but they're doing something with one of the old buildings on Water Street.

The ugly brown panels and old windows of the Big O tower are being replaced with glass.

Former Delta Hotel in Ottawa (closed for the last few years) will be re-clad and re-branded Hilton Garden Inn (10 storey tower) and Hilton Homewood Suites (17 storey tower).

Original:

Re-Clad:

What they had initially proposed between closing the old hotel and revealing the new plan today, same two Hilton brands in two towers (27 and 23 floors).

Don't know if it qualifies as a re-clad, but the olympic stadium tower (known officially as 'tour de montreal') is being renovated/retrofitted into an office tower, which will house over 1,000 Desjardins employees. Basically, upon completion it will be the city's 6th tallest office tower (it's 175m tall).

The tower's (and stadium's) are in dire need of a paint job, so I'm hoping this also happens. Right now they're taking off the ugly brown panels.

Does that mean that Montreal will soon have the world's tallest deliberately leaning office tower?

What was in the Big O's tower before, other than the observation deck?

This is by no means a new idea.

Regardless, this should have been done years ago, or better yet, when it was first built (at the start of a boom in the office market).
