The upside, though, is pretty great. The street-oriented nature of rapid transit allows it to truly tie into the city in a way that Vancouver's and Montreal's and soon-to-be-Ottawa's systems can't.
RER will follow rail corridor like REM, only street interaction per say is in old city of Toronto and older nodes in the suburbs for the stations. (barely qualifies)

And RER is being built quickly. Idea first announced in 2014 during an election campaign, first line open in 2020.

Where did you get the 2020 date?

If this is the case, GO better get it's ass in gear and start ordering some trains.

They were wrong railing. Looks like they were not going full speed, although in the tunnel you can here someone say that they are going 80km/h.

Going from Coquitlam Station to Burquitlam in 7.5min is not slow..... Even driving now takes about 12-15min and bus 20-25min. Try doing this route everyday

Ya they definitely sped up through the tunnel and in certain parts but for some of the turns etc they were crawling.

Much more watchable at 2x speed.

Any video of riding a metro or driving a highway is far better at several times normal speed.

As for the actual speed of the train on this video, only until Coquitlam Station seemed a little slow. After is cleared all switches west of the station it sailed for the rest of its journey.

Seeing how it is not open yet I doubt it is operating exactly how it will on opening day.

The re-routing of skytrain lines has commenced in Vancouver today, to prepare for the Evergreen extension's opening.

Train testing on the Confederation Line started today. On the easternmost section of the line (between St. Laurent and Blair), the tracks have been completed and energized (though the stations in the area are still under construction) ahead of the rest of the line, allowing for two winters in a row of train testing before the line opens in the spring of 2018.

Non-symetric door layout? are they planning for another plug section in the future? just seems to be an added complication if you ever plan to do screen doors. Oh well, it is the P3 operators problem!

I believe that each car can be expanded by adding another section.

Yep. The trains are designed so that another module can be added in between the first and second one, so that the capacity of each train can be upped from 300 to 370. During weekday daytimes, two trains will be attached to each other for a capacity of 600, growing to 720. Once that extra module is added in, the layout becomes symmetrical:

After living with Ottawa's insanely crowded rush hour Transitway buses and their insanely long dwell times due to difficulty accessing doors, having all those doors all down the train looks practically orgasmic!
