MIT (Manitoba Infrastructure Transportation...?) would like a generous donation from you to get it done, especially after bleeding quite a bit of money to construct freedom road for Shoal Lake 40 FN (Ontario).

It's a policy of Parks Canada.

Remember how TCH through Banff National Park only has maximum speed limit of 90 kph as well?

It's really stupid to have one speed limit apply to all national park roads when they vary so greatly. With all of the wildlife fences and bridges in Banff there's no reason why the speed limit should be so low. How many people drive 90 thru the park? Definitely not the majority which leads to huge discrepancies in speed which is actually way more dangerous than if everyone was going 110.

No rumble strips on the right shoulder. No recessed cat's eyes lane reflectors and a typical comically low 90 km/hr speed limit. Typical BC value engineering.Yeah, great upgrade.

BC have nothing to do with that section. It's not under their jurisdiction.

Are cat eyes used anywhere in Canada? I wish they were. There actually are rumble strips on the shoulder everywhere else on that road (visible in the streetview), just not where that intersection is.

Agreed about the speed limit, but you'll get shouted down for thinking that. There's deer behind those fences

. (I've literally never seen an animal on the road in BNP, but have seen far more on roads with higher speed limits).

That reminds me of an instance where RCMP New Brunswick tweeted about a moose inside the fenced zone of their Highway 2. The speed limit’s 110 kph by the way.

There's at least 100 moose collisions in NB every year. We're almost as bad as NL.

For some reason, instead of using the intended passes, animals sometimes tend to go all the way to the end of a fenced area, then cross there...

At least that’s what Québec found out about their Route 175.

It’s almost as if we need to train these animals too.

My understanding is that the animal overpasses, etc. in Banff are very well used by the animals. It doesn't take them long to figure out the system either.

Albertan Traffic Sheriffs are super aggressive in Banff. You go more than 15 over 90 and you’ll get a big fine. BC cops seem to be more lenient.

Not sure about that! I've lived my whole life in BC, so 99% of my driving is in BC, and YET, I've only ever had 2 speeding tickets here. By contrast, I've had 4 outside of BC (1 in Alberta, 1 in the Yukon and 2 in Washington State)!

Manitoba will only ever twin the roads after the neighbouring provinces decide to move ahead with twinning their highways.

The TCH stretch from Virden to Sask remained two lane right up until Sask. decided to move ahead with twinning their section of the highway, and then MB got their part finished quickly.

The same will happen with the last section at the Ontario border. Once construction starts on the Ontario side, MB will start - but not a moment sooner.

The TCH from Winnipeg to Falcon Lake has been getting it's shoulders expanded and upgraded over the past few years for what I assume will be the eventual increase in the speed limit from 100 to 110 kmph.
