It's not like this place suddenly turned disgracefully ugly over the wintertime. It's been terrible for years, and it has really gone from bad to worse over the past few years.

If your dog takes a dump on the living room rug do you just leave it there for 6 months because you're getting a new rug anyway? Because that's what this city is basically doing when it comes to Portage and Main.

But would it kill them over at 201 Portage to plant a few crummy impatiens in that huge expanse of stump wasteland? I'm ready to do it myself on the weekend...

They used to garden in there. But a couple years back they ripped out the trees and then started to excavate out the soil. I wonder if they are waiting to complete some sort of roof membrane repair below?

The 201 green space seem to get removed when they put in Asper's driveway to the parking lot. They also needed to expand the paved area for their popular summer concerts.

^^ Thanks for posting those photos of P&M in front of 201 Portage. I've been walking that corner on the way home from work since the summer of 2014 - it has not changed one bit. Other than maybe getting more run down. It's disgusting.

Plant some f-ing flowers or something. The west side of 201 Portage looks great, but it's like someone has forgotten the P&M side.

And don't even get me started on the war-zone like bunker entrance to the "circus" below at that corner.

IF decision is made to keep P&M closed to pedestrians, they absolutely have to make drastic improvements to that corner.

Unbelievable...

It doesn't cost anything for you to pick up your dog's poop.

The city has a budget for plants and shrubs, though. It's not like a couple thousand bucks in materials to beautify the corner is going to break the bank. Harvard could do it too for that matter.

I noticed 360 Main has nice plantings in their concrete barrier flower beds.

As does the Richardson corner, just like every year.

Seriously, I am getting a little container of flowers and planting them on Saturday. A protest planting. #guerillagardener

I believe the planters in question are on private property, no?

Is the barricade literally inches from the road private property? Seems unlikely to me. But if it is, then Harvard could step in and plant a few flowers or whatever. The other P&M property owners do it.

I suggested sprucing up 201 Portage to Downtown Biz, but they said "that building isn't in our zone".

Are you suggesting that picking up dog shit is a free lunch? It seems to present a major opportunity cost in forgone beer drinking and tv watching to a lot of people.

I believe that 201 Portage is in the Exchange BIZ area.
